CPSIA is on FOX news

right now they are talking about the new regs on Fox News.

They're talking about whether its hype or not and how it'll impact small businesses.

We already know the answer to that. Look around us. How many empty storefronts do we see?

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

Bah they didn't say much. I went and paid attention to it so I could report back. The anchor asked really good questions and the "expert" didn't answer anything. The expert said "well it shouldn't affect retroactively to things made before february because that stuff gets thrown out anyway when seasons change"..... how dumb!

Maybe it'll be on their website.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

At least this means it is getting national attention though... keep your eyes open. Maybe it'll be taken seriously now. The anchor did say there is momentum to make this law not apply retroactively and there is a push to change it.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

The person talking in this piece was as ill informed and ignorant as the people that passed the law...they said nothing.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

I'm glad this is getting the attention we need, but I'm really disgusted by how little thought they gave this and how ill informed it's proponents are.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

Yep very poorly informed.

From a posative note though I'm happy its getting some attention. Now maybe somebody in the news that has sense can pick it up and get a real story.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

that was dumb. and insulting to the stores, small businesses, artists and parents. Such an urgent, important question and you get THAT answer???

who can afford to throw out all their remaining 2008 stock and stay in business? or your kids' possessions after each season? then you get into thrift stores and 2nd hand shops, what about them?, on and on.

As a parent of an under 12 child, I seriously want to know if I will be able to buy (or afford) him new clothing after this month. Or if I should stock up, and what about toys for his birthday, etc?

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

I just caught the close of the show..all I heard was about the last 2 or 3 words but I knew the topic right away. So, I went to the FOX news channel and couldn't find anything-yet? P;ease let us know if somebody sees something on the web about the report...at least it's a start. I wrote Neil Cavuto directly, amongst hordes of others there...no response. I wrote all my senators and congressmen. One congressman responded, said he'd supported it, that they didn't realize the impact it was going to have but that I should contact the commerce committee who wrote the bill. In other words.."I'm not going to help". Very disappointing..oh well, bye-bye Mr. Congressman..you are gone next vote opportunity!
I'm actually going to add a new venue to my shoppe as this is completely putting me out of business. If an amendment happens, yeah!! If not, I'll be off and running on something else.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

BTW, how fast could an amendment for this be added to the existing bill? It seems in the past, congress takes a long time to pass anything. Lets see....how much pork can they add to this whole thing?????

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

Why couldn't this law be frozen for a couple of years?
Why couldn't we continue as is for a couple of years?
Why does Washington think they can do it all in January?

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

to Allisonstrine: contact the US Commerce Committee who wrote the bill. I know you will easily find a link to the subject there (CPSIA-Consumer Proection Safety Improvement Act). I saw one on another post here a few days ago and there was a direct link someone provided but I don't have that at this moment. Also, go to change.org. There's a huge amount of talk on there. It's one of the hottest topics on there. Obama has apparently promised to address EARLY the topics on there with the most interest from the country. Write your congress people. One of the things about the information on change.org, however, was that the title looked like it was all about TOYS and TOY safety...and that is so far from the whole picture. But the posts themselves are awesome. The statistics listed there by some of the larger company and those who've done their homework is amazing. I'm just a little guy starting out...this is an enormous issue. I've called the Targets and Wal-Marts in my area and the managers all say they don't know anything about it. I don't know if they are avoiding the discussion or have been instructed to play dumb.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

Her name was Hytha Prabhaka, a former writer for Forbes, and a retail analyst. She said the law was an over reaction, that clothing was already being tested for lead. She didn't believe that many small businesses would be affected, and her attitude was "too bad", everything is already being tested, so wtf. And when asked about Goodwill, consignment shops etc, she basically said, "big deal, we all throw out our clothing after a couple of months anyway, how can that hurt them that much?" Can we say, not living in the real world?? I don't know about you, but all my kids clothing was saved and passed down, and then passed on to friends. I never could afford to "throw out clothing after a month or two, or a season or two". This is the rarified air that the power people live in, I say revolution!!!!!

FayeMalone - Well said! Revolution may be a ways off, but revolting -- you betcha! I get every minute of use I can for my family's clothes. I buy at consignment stores when I can and donate what isn't too worn out. Kind of trying to keep my *footprint* small.

Re: CPSIA is on FOX news

Can you imagine the gov. actually arresting anyone donating used children's items to a charity? Seriously? And if they did, can you imagine the reaction of the public to the news reports?
