Where do you get your CPSIA labels made? Can anyone recommened an etsy seller who makes them? I did see some when I did a search but I like to hear some reviews. Or do you make your own?
Most of the time, batch numbers don't relate to us. Are you going to make your ring slings in multiple quantities of the exact same materials, or are you making one of each fabric, and then made to order?
Think of it this way with batches. Let's say you are going to make cookies for a party or wedding. You need to make 30 doz. You double your standard recipe so each day this week you will make 6 doz. Batch 1 is on Mon, batch 2 is on Tues. and so on thru the week. On Sat, just as you are packing up with your DH help, he says " wow, this cookie is really really salty., what happened?" You freak out and ask him which bag he got the cookie from. He shows you it was Tues bag, you eat a cookie from all the other bags. they are fine. So your problem was on Tues. So those are thrown away before use, Your husband became your tester. If you had mixed all the batches of cookies together after you had baked them you would not know where the problem was and all the cookies would have to be "tested".
If you are making ones and twos at a time. You probably won't need batches. Your record keeping will tell you when you switch to a new batch of ring slings if you make sure you date acurately. They are your fail supply I would think.
That makes perfect sense. I should be able to keep good record fairly easily.
As far as ring slings go, Neal did mention batch numbers. Since there have been recalls in the past about them bending and stuff. (although the rings I'll use are individually tested at 100lbs) I asked him if that meant each batch was all the slings I make from one order of sling rings. He said "yep, exactly."
So I'll have to figure out how to do that with my labels.. I assume it'll be a "wait and see how much demand there is" type thing before I get batch quantities just right.
A bag of ring slings would be no different than a bag of any supply. If I have a bag of red buttons I make a notation in my records that I used style # 123 red button by LaMode on the garment. I know from my records that I bought that bag on X date from XX. All the dresses that use those buttons are notated in my records. It takes me 6 moths to go thru those red buttons. So I buy another bag. So now in my records I now note that I'm using the red buttons I bought on Y from XX. If something goes wrong with either batch, they break in half or the color changes, I can tell my the dates on my labels and my records which bag and which customers I need to contact and switch buttons. Making batch numbers is an additional way for you if needed to be able to cross reference who, when, where and what, because why happened so you and your customer can correct something.
