CPSIA Idea

My mother worked for a city municpality for 30 years and they bought chemicals. For every chemical purchased, they had to receive a document (MSDS sheet) from the manufacture that had all the ingrediants in that chemical and how it can be used and what happens if it's ingested.

This was for EVERY chemical, down to white-out.

What if this were required for the supplies we buy to create children's items? If you make clothing, than then with your fabric would be sent a certification that it had been tested and is safe for use.

Same with paint used for children's toys, or yarn ... everything.

This would put the burden on the manufacturer, not the small businesses.

I believe this may already be part of the "thinking" process of the government, but who really knows!

Just thought I'd share some hope...

This has been mentioned before. It seems to make sense the only trouble is the manufacturer doesn't know what their product is being used for. But I know for me, I'd much rather pay a tad more for paint, etc. to know it was safe and not have to go through the testing myself.

Re: CPSIA Idea

Re: CPSIA Idea

I know the manufacture of paint is required to have this document. But you have to ask for it. Now, most small retail shops may have no idea what that is. It's usually a Managment thing. My mother was in charge of getting these documents. If white-out and Comet had one, I'm sure the paint the purchsed - in huge quantities - also had them.

I would hope that ALL manufactuers know how they are creating their products.

SquaresofFlair! Exactly! There is hope. This is that time to "look outside the box". There will be ways to sell without much extra cost. It may be a lot of extra work for awhile, but the results will be worth it for everyone!

Maybe it's the Christmas spirit that is making me so Optomistic! I will be blogging about this as well!

Re: CPSIA Idea

How much are testing costs expected to be, by the way?

Re: CPSIA Idea

That I do no know. But they are not cost effective unless you have huge quantities, would be my guess.
