Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

I disagree with the fleas on the dinosaur. Back when the toy problems happened, there was a lot on the news about how the big toy seller sales were down, and small domestic manufacturers sales were up. I mean individually a small manufacturer or crafter may not make much of an impact, but collectively, yes - I think it's definitely possible.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

trin, we WERE fleas, when we were reduced to selling on our .coms and at markets. now that places like etsy and such have pulled us together, we are really starting to rise.

i made more money the two months before xmas as my friends who work 9-5.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

cogans... congress is primarily dems... and when i looked at the bills supporters, i saw 3, i think, republicans.

the whole list seems to have been dems.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

not only that, even bush didn't want to sign the thing, but he had no choice. it was veto-proof. it had on it's vest.

numerous republicans have been targeted and attacked by consumer groups as profit hungry toxic toy supporters.

i hope the truth comes out, loud and clear.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

The way I interpreted this scenario was that the lobbyists lobbied for the bill. The toy companies became aware of it and also lobbied, but apparently for very few exemptions. I believe I even read somewhere that they testified in favor of it. I think largely because they knew this testing, a drop in the bucket for them, would go a long way in winning back the share of the market that they lost after the toy problems a few years ago. Did they also realize at the time that a lot of smaller firms who were their at home competition would be put out of business at the same time, making it a win win? Only they know the answer to that.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

You're right hellome. The combination of all the crafters and small to medium sized businesses in the US, Canada, EU and other countries that do not outsource their production to places like China and other low-wage countries is most definitely a threat to the *big* guys.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

staceyJean.....I'm not disagreeing with you that the *supporters* may have been Dems....but EVERY single representative voted Yes, regardless of their party affiliation...no-one fought it by voting No, except for one lone Congressman. Just because they didn't *sponsor* or *write* it...if they voted FOR it, then they supported it.

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

I will say, in terms of what jean is saying, that I don't doubt this was primarily democrat supported. But I also don't think it is a stupid law. What is unfortunate about it is the damage it will do to smaller manufacturers and makers, which I am quite sure was not the intent of the bill. Now if they could just find some way around that without leaving a gazillion loopholes for unscrupulous businesses to walk through. Which is what I think is probably holding them back. I mean, you can't say that a small manufacturer in the US can make X without testing but an importer can't import the same number from wherever. And you can't say, for example, toys and clothing from US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and South America are fine. But any Asian companies, no no, we must test those. So I would think this is part of the problem they are having, feeling they must either keep the law largely intact, or it will become essentially meaningless.

don't be sorry... a lot of those senators are waking up.

it doesn't change the fact that democrats and big businesses created this monstrosity together.

And may I say that as a Democrat it cheeses ME off too? :-)

Left a comment which has not yet appeared, but it may after moderating. A concise one for me, come to think of it. LOL

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

I knew it!! When my husband & I first heard about this new law, we actually entertained the idea that it was a conspiracy involving the big toymakers & a sure fire way to squeeze the little guy out!! Shame on them!!

My son says they need a "BIG TIME OUT" in their rooms until they figure out what they did wrong!! LOL!

Gosh, it's funny how our words echo in our child!!

Re: CPSIA CONSPIRACY

lol... hey, i'm non-partisan. my beef really is that people decided to blame the backlash against this on the republicans being money hungry strippers in bed with big business.

if this article is correct, it seems like... the dems are guilty, TOO. i think that, i got ahead of myself, and didn't really be totally clear. i know the republicans are financially driven.

it's not a secret.

but i wish that the left would be shown in their true light, as well. i'm tired of everything wrong being blamed on the right.

as a non-partisan, i see two crooked parties.

stop offering to save us... the whole obama campaign was shoved at us with this need to be saved!

blah...

that's my only point.

i should avoid politics discussions here. really.
