Hello all,

I am trying to raise awareness about the potentially disastrous effects of the CPSIA in whatever small way I can. As many of you are probably already aware, most people have never heard of this legislation, or simply assume the act is "good" because it "protects" children.

I am going to feature a new artisan/crafter each day on my Facebook page; someone who may have to stop making children's items because of the extreme difficulties of complying with the law.

I will feature a picture of one of your products and a link to your Etsy store, as well as a short bio and comment by you if you desire. Instead of me hunting each of you down individually and asking for your permission to post a photo, it would be easier if you would just pm me and give me permission.

Thanks!
Christina

This is super!!!! You may use my shop and grab and mok photo you want. Thanks so much for joining in the effort to get the info out to everyone. This law is really still under the mat. You are right that people don't know about it even now.

deaddollclothing say

"It will affect me too if I cant sell to the USA but at least it will not put me out of buisness."

Unfortunately this may be true for a lot of international sellers. They can still sell stuff, just not to Americans. We're going to loose on all grounds.

Re: Artisans affected by CPSIA - Read this!

Thanks everybody! I've reset my Facebook page so that anyone can view, and when I have the time I'm going to set up a new "fan" page. Help me come up with a good name for it!

Not to change the subject but, while writing the elected officials in Washington, you might want to add that you are not in favor of VAT. The VAT is gaining much support (Democrats) to pay for the Universal Health Plan & if it is voted in, people will not be buying much of anything so CPSIA won't matter that much to small business folks like us!
Good luck to you all,
Helene

Re: Artisans affected by CPSIA - Read this!

I'd love to participate!!! I believe most of my store is going to be affected since I use mostly paints. Not sure how to handle to be honest. :( I've already removed a LARGE portion of my children's jewelry from my store.

Here's my Facebook addy again.
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1004535501&ref=name

I'd love to have you all as friends.

As for setting up a fan page for this issue... I would do the same thing; feature an artisan each day who might be put out of business by the CPSIA. Instead of it being on my personal profile, it would be a page anyone can become a "fan" of, the way bands have fan pages on Facebook. I just need to know what to call it, and I'm drawing a big blank. Any suggestions?

So far I have featured four Etsy artists. When I feature you, I will send you a message letting you know I have. I was hoping to post a new one every day, but I had a few days out of town without internet access. Can't wait to get to all of you!

Re: Artisans affected by CPSIA - Read this!

This is a neat idea. Could I suggest adding charity knitters? We're being hit hard as well. Most of my preemie sweaters are one of a kind make from yarn donated by a friend. (Who BTY used the yarn for her own little one's clothing.) I don't have item numbers, etc, etc, etc for them and I certainly don't have all the info I'm supposed to keep handy just in case someone five or six years down the road has a question. I also (horror of horrors) use buttons!!!!!! Which actually are the safest thing for a preemie's delicate skin.

GRRR. So much for charity.
