Something to consider...

Do you trust supplier testing? Completely? Only on products that are not at risk for containing lead? Not at all?

If your business is a sole proprietorship, do you trust them enough to risk your family's assets?

Feel free to consider this a rhetorical question. :-)

I was thinking that, too. I don't know if I would... I'm just thinking of the times I've bought "Nickel-free" hypoallergenic earrings from Claires only to have my ears break out...

Thankfully all my children's items are mostly fabric, thread, and soap. :)

Re: Something to consider...

If a crafter have a compliance cert from the supplier, and the finished item breaks the law from that supply not being compliant... the crafter might have a very solid ground for a lawsuit against the supplier.

HOWEVER, based on what I know about my supplies, it is highly unlikely for them to have either lead, or phylates.

I agree. But it's also probably easier and cheaper to CYA up front.

Re: Something to consider...

The thing is that getting their compliance certificate, covers MY ass... it's a legal document as far as CPSC would be concerned.
