International shipping question

Hello everyone!
I am new to selling on Etsy, just started January 2014, and I got my first international order this past February. I shipped it on February 25th from North Carolina destination England and I have since been checking the tracking information to get an estimate on how long my orders take to get to their destination internationally. Since February 28th I have received no more updates on this package. It was scanned "departing USPS sorting facility" in FL. My question is, once it leaves the US do we receive any tracking information afterwards? I am quite concerned that I have not received any more information since February 28th on the item's location. Any information you all can give about this would be very helpful!

Re: International shipping question

Probably got delayed at customs. Keep checking the tracking number. I had that happen to me when I shipped to Canada. It was suppose to take 6-10 days, but was 22 days. So just be patient and you may also email the postal service in England, if you can find it online. I did that and the canadian postal service emailed me back and apologized for the package taking so long to arrive. Good luck! You can also have your customer contact their end at the postal service and see if they can find out anything.

Re: International shipping question

i have a problem with an order I sent to Ireland. It's a bit of a complicated story.
The buyer purchase the item and the address Etsy and PayPal provide me was in England. The buyer convo me asking if instead I can send it to an address in Dublin, Ireland. I sent the order within the 2 days, with tracking number, as I always do.
Usually takes 3 to 5 working days from the netherlands to UK. After a delay, the buyer contact me asking what was going on, I check the status with the tracking number and it was a problem with the address in ireland. I convo the buyer and explained the situation. He was already asking for a refound. I call client service from PostNL and they say that the package was being on the way back to me because a problem with the address of destination, I contacted again the buyer and told him that as soon as I get the package back I will refound his money. Yesterday morning I got another message from the buyer saying that was over a month ago since his purchase and he want it the money back. I called PostNL client service again, and now they said that the package was delivered on Ireland, on the tracking number it says: delivered 11th March 12.40hs, but on the status it also says the package was being returned.
I contacted the buyer saying that the tracking service and postNL at the phone confirmed me that the package was delivered.
Now he's furious and he's saying he didn't get the package at all.
He also said he's going to reported to Etsy.
Any sugestions on what to do?
Thank you all!

Re: International shipping question

I had one order go to England. It did not require he recipient to pay any customs fees. It was delivered exactly one week after I shipped it from California. It did get a scan when it arrived at customs in England.

Re: International shipping question

JacqsCrafts--some countries will scan, some won't. and even in those that do it might be a bit hit-or-miss for First Class International since they only started scanning those (officially) in January. International First Class can take anywhere from a week to 6 weeks depending on the speed it travels in the destination country and whether or not it is stopped by customs.

If the customer is saying they haven't received it yet, then they should probably contact their local PO or customs department. The UK has a low threshold for customs, only about $20, so any package over that runs the risk of being stopped. If it is, and fees are assessed, the PO will send a notice to the buyer and the buyer will have to pay the fees before receiving the package. Sometimes those notices are overlooked or not received by the buyer and they don't realize they must go and pay customs for their package.

VintageBreda--that's a very tricky situation. It sounds like maybe delivery was attempted and the package is now on its way back to you because he either refused it or missed the notice that the package was in town waiting for pick up.

If it was a low priced item and you just want to be done with it, you can choose to refund before getting the item back with only a small monetary risk. If you want to wait for the package to come back, you can provide Etsy with the tracking info and let them know that you are just waiting for the package to arrive back before refunding.

Re: International shipping question

Hello Everyone,
I got a big order from Japan. PayPal and Etsy are giving me the name of the buyer and the address on Japanese characters.
Don't really know how to manage this.
Any tips, ideas?
Thank you in advance, Fran.

Re: International shipping question

Usually it's fine so long as it says Japan in English on the shipping label so USPS knows where to send it but you could ask the customer for a translation of the full name and address and include both on the package if that makes you more comfortable.

Re: International shipping question

You could copy and paste the address onto a label. That's what I do.
