Hi India sellers!

I’m excited to share that on Monday, September, 21st, Etsy India will work with its third party partner agency here to offer some “Listing Critique” tips for Indian sellers on the forum!

For those of you who have not participated in a “Listing Critique” before, here’s how it works:

  • Next week on 21/09 we will open this thread to comments at 10:00 am IST. From there, you will have until 10:00 pm IST to submit a link to a listing from your shop that you’d like advice on—you can only choose one, so choose wisely!
  • With guidance from Etsy Shop Optimization Specialists, Etsy will review your listing and share a personalised critique. The critiques will focus on things like keywords, photography, and other conversion tactics.

Here are the details:

  • If you’d like to participate,
    • Join the Team: India Etsy Seller Support Network. This is where all the action will be happening so sign up in advance.
    • Head to the team on September 21st at 10:00 AM IST to find the discussion - it will be called “Listing Critique: 21st September, 2020”. It’ll be pinned at the top! We will only look at listings that are posted on 21st - so make sure you only post then.
  • Reply directly to this post. We will be open to take listing submissions from 10:00am to 10:00pm IST Listing critiques will be shared on a rolling basis between 10:00am - 6:00pm IST on 24th and 25th September.

We’re so excited and we hope you are too!

Hi Niraja,

Hope you are doing well! I am Shweta and I work in the Community team here at Etsy India!

I love the vintage vibe these floral mats give, it looks like you have put in a lot of effort to make these beautiful one of a kind mats

I have curated a few suggestions after having a look at your listing. Firstly, I’ll talk about the photographs. I think you have done a great job by adding 10 angles of the product to your listing. The more images you add, the more you are letting your buyers visualise the product.

However, I noticed that your 5th and 6th image are similar, they are communicating the same thing to the buyer. Maybe, instead of adding pictures that visually  communicate  the same message to the buyer, you could add a different shot. Perhaps, a packaging shot or a process shot. The packaging shot will allow your buyers to see what the product will look like when it reaches them and the process shot will allow the shoppers to get more insight on what goes behind making the product.

I also see that your listing video has a text overlaid/ watermark at the bottom of it. If possible, please try to avoid the usage of a text overlaid/ watermark. In your listing video, just let your awesome video shine through!

I like how you have tried to use as many keywords in your title as possible. However, instead of using a full stop and a comma to separate the phrases in your title, I will suggest you use a comma only. Our buyer research shows that a comma helps in making the title look neater and makes it easy to read for the buyer.

Maybe, your title can look like this: “Embroidered floral quilted mat, Rose cup and snack mat, Handcrafted holiday decor and gift”. This was just an example of how your title can look, you can choose whatever words or phrases that you think describe your product the best!

Lastly, I also see that you have had 4 sales! Try and get a review for the sale that you make. The more reviews you have, the better it will be for the credibility of your shop. Here is a helpful article that can guide you on ways to get great reviews

Hello.. Please can you review my listing and share the feedback.

Hello there!

Hope you are staying safe!

I had a few thoughts that I hope will be able to help you engage traffic.

Firstly, I like that you have a lot of photos, but I think it would be helpful to have photos that show the scale of the toy. It would be amazing if you could include a couple photographs that show the toy in either a nursery or a crib - something to let the customer imagine what the toy might look like in their lives. Adding packaging shots to instill confidence in buyers' products being sent directly to customers would be another way to help sway any on the fence side.

The second thing which comes to my mind is your listing title. I noticed you’re using slashes to separate phrases in your listings. Our buyer research shows that using commas instead of slashes helps titles appear more clean and readable. I would also suggest you to limit yourself to 3-4 phrases which have strong keywords that will help you in finding the right buyer. For instance, “DIY painting kit for kids, Unicorn stuff toy art kit, Paint your own dinosaur toy, Art and craft painting projects”.

Lastly, I would recommend you to use all available tags (we offer 13) with diverse terms so that you get as many opportunities as possible to get your items in front of buyers in search. Terms like “kids painting kit, stuffed toy painting, diy stuff toys, montessori learning, diy craft project, dinosaur paint kit, personalized toys” can be considered. Additionally, you can update some of your tags like “children's day gift, christmas gift, halloween gift, 5th birthday git” throughout the year to match with current holidays/trends that can help with search placement. You can go through the article below for more help: What's Trending in Kids and Baby Products

Also, I would recommend you increase your chance of getting found by shoppers by adding more listings and variety to your shop.

Hi Tabassum! Hope you are doing well.

Thanks for participating. I just loved this net embroidered lehenga with blouse and especially the dupatta with the feathers. I’m excited to review your listing!

It looks like you’ve already optimized your listing with a number of our best practices, including having readable titles, diverse photography with different angles and offering free shipping.

I’d suggest using all available photo slots for the listing (right now you have 7 and you actually get up to 10). This can help shoppers get a better feel for your items since they can't pick up and hold them before they purchase. I would also like to suggest removing the photo of reviews from your product photography section.

Additionally, there is a new option of adding a listing video now - which helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product!

(Click Add a video if you’d like to add a short video showcasing additional details about your listing. Click Choose to upload your video. Your video may be 5–15 seconds long and will not contain any audio once uploaded to your listing. Ideal resolution for your video is at least 1080px. You can only add one video per listing)

Hi Padmaja,

I must say that the silk thread jewellery is absolutely stunning! It makes for a perfect jewellery that will suit all Indian as well as Indo- western outfits.

I love how you have added so many different angles of the product and added a listing video as  well - good job

Coming to the critique, I noticed that under one listing, you have added photos of two different products. While one piece of jewellery is just a necklace, the other photo’s contain a set of jewellery which not only has a different colour, but a different design as well.

My suggestion will be to list products that have a different design or look under a separate listing. This will allow your buyer’s to see each of your beautiful creations carefully and will help avoid confusion as they will know what the listing is or what they are purchasing unlike this listing where the buyer may not necessarily know which product out of the two is being sold in this listing.

I like how you have created a listing video as well. It helps give buyers more perspective about your product along with your photographs. Since, this is a piece of jewellery, I was wondering if you could have it modelled on someone as well. This will allow the shoppers to visualise what the product looks like when it's worn or when it's being used.

You can also add a packaging shot, this will allow the buyers to understand how the product will look like when it reaches them

Here is a helpful article by Etsy that will give you different ideas on how to photograph jewellery: https://www.etsy.com/uk/seller-handbook/article/case-study-how-to-photograph-jewellery/150875867017

When writing your description, try and include as many details as possible. For example, since this is a piece of jewellery, if there’s any special care/ precaution that needs to be taken while wearing it or tips on how the product can longer can be mentioned in the description. The description can also include the style, inspiration, theme etc of the product as well

Here is an interesting article by Etsy that guides on how to write enticing descriptions

https://www.etsy.com/in-en/seller-handbook/article/how-to-write-enticing-item-descriptions/227897191...

I will recommend you to use all 13 tags! It looks like you have used 3-4 so far. Tags act as keywords on Etsy and help a product’s searchability on the platform. Tags can include specific color, style, purpose or the material of the product. Try and avoid using single word tags as well. Multi word or multi phrase tags work better on Etsy. For example, your tags can be “beaded necklace, personalised jewellery, anniversary gift, jewellery for women, women's accessory” etc

Lastly, I will suggest you add information to the “About your shop” section since it really helps buyers understand your making process, and it reminds them that real humans are on the other side of this listing making it!

Hi Srishti,

Hope you’re doing great! So good to see you here in the forums!

First off, congratulations on your 5 star rating and reviews! Looks like your customers are adoring your products. Below are a few pointers that might help you for better conversion:

  • The first thing which pops up in my mind is your listing photography. Since your buyers can’t touch or pick a product before receiving, it becomes all the way important to provide a comprehensive product overview. How about adding high quality images including a close up shot, multiple angles view or having lifestyle shots to display your product in multiple room settings? You can check out the article given below for inspiration: https://www.etsy.com/in-en/seller-handbook/article/7-essential-types-of-product-photos/22504064051
  • Adding to the photos, there is a new option of adding a listing video now - which helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product!  (Click Add a video if you’d like to add a short video showcasing additional details about your listing. Click Choose to upload your video. Your video may be 5–15 seconds long and will not contain any audio once uploaded to your listing. Ideal resolution for your video is at least 1080px. You can only add one video per listing).
  • Since the title of a listing is important for search relevance and are usually the first things shoppers tend to see, I would suggest reformatting the title to include key descriptions of the item that shoppers would be searching for  Also, I’d suggest separating out phrases of your title with commas rather than other characters such as slashes or hyphens. Perhaps something like “Digital christmas bingo cards, Retro christmas cards game, Printable christmas party bingo, Instant downloadable game”.
  • The keywords you add to your title and tags are an essential tool for matching your listings to the searches on Etsy. Each tag you add is a chance to match with a shopper’s search, so spread them around and add some variety (use all 13)! You can consider adding “vintage card print, digital prints, digital files, christmas bingo card, downloadable cards, victorian prints, decorative game prints” as these appear to be more specific to the listing itself (avoid one/incomplete words like antique and victorian).

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

Thanks for sharing your listing. All the best for the upcoming season!

Hello Sudeepa, hope you are doing great!

I am Shweta and I work in the Community team here at Etsy India. First of all, I would like to tell you that I really loved these earrings! The packaging looks super cute and catchy. I am really excited to review your product.

There are few points that I would like to suggest you:

  • Banner Image - I can see that your banner image is missing. It would be really great if you could put a banner image. You can make a collage of your products and can put it in the banner section.
  • Listing - As I can see that you have done 15 listings till now. I would recommend you to add more listings so that buyers will have more options to choose from.

You can have a look at this help article: https://www.etsy.com/uk/seller-handbook/article/customising-the-look-of-your-shop-home/358680450619

Hi Neeta!

I have had a chance to review your listing and before I share my suggestions for your listings, I must say that you’ve made a beautiful cotton dress. It looks like a fuss free dress which is perfect for the summer season.

I love how you have added so many different angles of the product and each photo looks clear, crisp and very professional - good job!

While it's great how you have added 7 photographs, you can add as many as 10 for every listing you add on Etsy. You can also add a scaling shot, that can help you visually communicate to the buyer the dimensions of the dress. Other than that, a packaging shot can be helpful as well in allowing the buyers to see what the product looks like when it reaches them

You can have a look at this article by Etsy, that suggests some ideas to photograph your products: https://www.etsy.com/uk/seller-handbook/article/7-essential-types-of-product-photos/22504064051

Videos provide a lot more information about the product that the shopper’s can’t get from photos. A listing video may also influence their decision to purchase an item. Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!

It looks like you’re using tags for your listing (which is important!). Make sure you use all available tags with diverse terms so that you get as many opportunities as possible to get your items in front of buyers in search. It looks like as of now you’ve used 10 tags and you actually use up to 13

Tags can include specific colour, size, shape and material of the product and always remember to use multi word or multi phrase tags since they tend to work better on Etsy rather than single word tags!

If you need inspiration for coming up with more tags, use the Etsy search bar. As you type in a search, a dropdown list will appear with suggestions of the most searched phrases using the words you entered. If you see any that are relevant to your items, try adding them as tags.

Some examples of tags can be: easy to wear, office wear, casual wear, cotton tunic, striped cotton dress etc

https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/847570119/desk-clock-business-card-holder-deskton?ga_order=most_r...

Hello Akshay!

Thanks for sharing this listing. This design resembles one of those age old clocks from nursery, giving that classy vintage look to your home!

After a careful review, I found that your title has 10 phrases and contains single words like rustic and industrial. My piece of advice for you will be to shorten your title (may be merging some phrases) and limiting yourself to 3-4 phrases. For example, “Gunmetal grey desk clock, Metallic business card holder, Rustic desk accessories”. Anything else relevant can come up in tags.

Focus on writing accurate, complete and descriptive words in the title and tags that make it easy for shoppers who are scanning a busy search results page to see what you’re selling. Instead of one words like “custom, mancave, decor or essential”, use terms like “grey table clock, office desk furniture, gunmetal clock, card holder, grey deskton, corporate gifts, christmas gift, piston card stand, everyday essentials, steampunk clock, country style clock, industrial decor” can help increase chances of getting found. Check out the following article to help you understand better:

https://www.etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/keywords-101-everything-you-need-to-know/382774281517

Another important thing which jumps to my mind is your listing photography. I’d suggest using all available photo slots for the listing (right now you have 2 and you actually get up to 10). This can help shoppers get a better feel for your items since they can't pick up and hold them before they purchase. Consider having lifestyle, scaling, process and packaging images. If you need more ideas on what other types of photos to take, check out the article attached below: https://www.etsy.com/in-en/seller-handbook/article/7-essential-types-of-product-photos/22504064051

So good to see you here in the forums! You have so many amazing products in your shop. I would like to congratulate you on all your five star reviews and the pictures that accompany the reviews. You can definitely tell your buyers are very proud of their purchases.

Your title looks good but I would recommend that you focus on the key phrases of the title. Think of phrases a buyer would enter when searching for an item like yours. Here’s one suggestion: handmade cotton printed tunic, Loose Fitting Button top, front open pleated shirt etc.

Apart from this, I would also suggest you to have some tags according to the occasions such as we can write christmas gift, gift item, gift for her, diwali gift, indian dress, traditional dress etc.

Hi Shweta!

Hope you are doing well! I must say it's a beautiful mandala painting. It makes for a stunning home decor.

I have curated a list of suggestions that you can consider to make your listing ready for success:

Firstly, I’ll talk about the photographs. I think you have done a great job by adding so many different angles of the painting. The photos are very clear and crisp as well.

However, I was wondering if you could add a shot where you show what the product looks like where it’s in a certain setting or a surrounding. Maybe, you can consider taking a photo of the product where it's hung on a wall in a living room or bedroom or you can show the product against the wall on a bedside table. Shots like these allow the buyer to visualize the product in their daily lives, when it's being used or is in a surrounding where it may belong.

Next, I see that you have used 10  tags, which is great! Although, you can add as many as 13. Tags act as keywords on Etsy and help the searchability of the product. Please avoid using single word tags, you can use multi word or multi phrase tags instead, since they work better on the platform. Your tags can include the color, style, purpose and the material of the product . For instance, instead of housewarming, you can use the tag “housewarming gift”, other than that you can also consider using tags like “ dot painting, canvas painting, handmade art” etc.

would love to submit this listing.

personalised rubber stamp, rubber stamp, custom portrait stamp https://etsy.me/3hPiNdd

thanks

Hi Kanupriya! Hope you are keeping well!

I really liked your wide variety of paper accessories, so aesthetically pleasing! Here is a list of suggestions that can help you make your listing stronger:

  1. I see that you have already added different angle images - good job here! However, I tend to notice that you are repeating some of your images like pictures in the 2nd and 6th slot. I would suggest you to add a few more photos including process, lifestyle or packaging shots to give a well-rounded understanding of your product.
  2. Adding to the photos, you can also add a listing video to help shoppers gain a clear picture of your product! If you are wondering what type of product video would do the job, then use the link below to seek inspiration: https://www.etsy.com/in-en/seller-handbook/article/3-types-of-listing-videos-that-online/82106953000...
  3. I noticed that you have limited your listing title to 3 phrases which is good. However, it’s really important to use strong and descriptive keywords here which will help in finding your product on the busy search page. “Personalized rubber stamp” is a good start, how about expanding it to include terms like “Custom portrait stamp for kids, Name stamp on paper”?
  4. We find that using keywords with multiple words or phrases in the title and tags that are as specific as possible work the best for matching your listing with the perfect buyer. If you need inspiration for coming up with more keywords, here is a link attached that will help you understand better: https://www.etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/keywords-101-everything-you-need-to-know/382774281517

Hope these tips are helpful! Wishing you tons of success!

Best,

Shweta

Hi there, my name is Shweta and I work in the Community team, Etsy India. Thank you for submitting your listing. I really loved your necklace and earring set. It is really intricate in design and classy. I would also like to congratulate you for all your five star reviews.

There are a few things that I would like to recommend for your product:

  • Title: I would suggest using the most relevant 3-4 phrases, such as” handmade victorian necklace with earrings, brass beaded necklace, gold polish pink neck piece”
  • Tags: Think of tags as keywords that buyers will input into the search bar on Etsy to find your items. We find that using tags with multiple words or phrases that are as specific as possible work the best for matching your listing with the perfect buyer. You can try adding something like “ handmade jewelry, handmade necklace, pink jewellery, gift for her, necklace with earring, wedding jewellery, beaded jewellery, brass necklace, gold polishes set, gift for bride, bridesmaid gift, christmas gift etc. Here is a help article for inspiration on keywords: Keywords 101: Everything You Need to Know

Hi please review my listing https://etsy.me/3cfNAia

Hi Artziqa,

Hope you are doing well!

I’m Shweta and I work in the Community team here at Etsy India!

Thank you for submitting your listing. The painting looks beautiful, this is something that I would definitely use as a home decor!

After having a look at your listing, I was able to curate a list of suggestions that can help in making this listing even stronger and ready for the holiday season.

My first suggestion would be around the photographs. It’s great that you have added 5 different angles of the listing, however, you can add as many as 10. The more images you add, the more you're letting your buyers see the product better.

Perhaps, you could consider adding a scale shot, that will allow you to visually communicate to the buyer the dimensions of the painting or you could also add a process shot, let your buyers see how you made this awesome product!

Also, a lifestyle shot would be great - it helps a buyer imagine the painting in their own living room!

Next, I’ll talk about the title. Instead of having one long phrase as your title, we suggest that you use 3-4 relevant phrases as your title. Maybe, your title can look like this: “Epoxy Geode resin painting, stretched canvas art, Epoxy acrylic artwork” - this was just an example of how your title can look, you can choose different phrases/words as well that you think describe your product the best!

When writing your description, make sure to include all details about the product, like, size, theme, style, purpose etc. The more details you mention, the better the buyer can understand the product.  Here is an article from Etsy’s seller guide booklet, that can help you in writing enticing descriptions: 5 Tips for Writing Stellar Product Descriptions

I will recommend you to use all 13 tags! Tags act as keywords on Etsy and help a product’s searchability on the platform. Tags can include specific color, style, purpose or the material of the product. Try and avoid using single word tags as well. Multi word or multi phrase tags work better on Etsy. For example, your tags can be “resin art, epoxy resin art, home decor, housewarming gift” etc

I would recommend you add the “shop member” section as well ,when written, it will allow you to write about yourself in a few lines. It reminds the shopper that real humans are on the other side of this listing making it!

Hi,

Thank you for this.

I feel I have done everting with this listing but it doesn't get enough views. Would love to hear your thoughts - https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/730600466/succulent-with-stones-painting-earthy

Hello Khadija!

So good to see you here in the forums! Thanks for submitting this listing. What a beautiful piece of art - so detailed and beautiful!

This listing only needs a few tweaks to get more eyes on it:

  • You have done a great job by adding multiple angles, lifestyle and packaging pictures. Consider adding a process shot to tell your potential buyers the level of workmanship put into creating this masterpiece.

  • You can add a listing video to highlight the features of your product. (Click Add a video if you’d like to add a short video showcasing additional details about your listing. Click Choose to upload your video. Your video may be 5–15 seconds long and will not contain any audio once uploaded to your listing. Ideal resolution for your video is at least 1080px. You can only add one video per listing.
  • Overall your title and tags seem to be in a great shape already. However, if you need ideas for brainstorming on new keywords for title and tags, then you can also check out the article given below: https://www.etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/keywords-101-everything-you-need-to-know/382774281517

I hope this helps, wishing you success for the upcoming holiday season!

Best,

Shweta
