Re: Upcoming Fall Craft Shows

The Tomball Farmer's Market has spots available for $20. I just did a show there today and it was my best one yet, so exciting!! 7 Acre Wood is doing a Christmas vendor show on Dec 7, in Conroe. I also had a great show there last month.

Re: Upcoming Fall Craft Shows

Cougar Christmas Market was an abysmal failure. I took vacation time off of work and spend 2 1/2 days on this show. All I made was my booth and lunch money. I was not the only one. Fellow vendors said there was very little traffic and people were not buying much when normally they would have done much better.. Come to find out there had been at least 3 other high schools hosting shows in that pavilion in earlier weeks and this show was run week later than usual. I met some really super nice vendors though financially it was a huge, terrible disappointment. I gambled on this show and lost big time. On top of that, it was the second of my four shows this season that was an absolute disaster in terms of customer traffic. I just wish I could find 4 shows a year that would be worth my time and effort but it is so hard to find more than one at a time I am almost ready to give up. I wish I could find out important details about shows before I waste me time and money on them. Don't we all!

Re: Upcoming Fall Craft Shows

My opinions--take them for what they are worth:

I have met some really nice people doing very nicely run markets, including several that were very pleasant experiences in working with the hosts. God bless them all! The bottom line is we have to have customers, and sometimes, no matter how good the hospitality and preparation, we still don’t have shoppers. You’re going to have some bummer days, like it rained all weekend at a market that was quite good for me the year before. Very disappointing. That’s life when you do markets. If you’re not willing to put up with a little of that, you’re in the wrong business. However, I am going to make choices that will hopefully help minimize my bad market experiences. When I have customers, I always make sales; I just don't have the stamina to continue to do this without customers.

1. I am not doing any more markets that cost less than $75.00 per day (or less than $10.00 per hour). Any cheaper than that and I have found it's too often a lot of work for little payoff. The most I can afford right now is $175.00 per day.

2. If you are going to pay $75.00--$100.00 or more per day, expect that you will need to bring your “A” game: your best stuff, your best effort. Better markets want quality items, and for markets to improve over time everybody has to make it happen. Cheaper shows generally attract vendors with less-than-great items.

3. For fall markets, don’t waste your time with anyone who hasn’t published their applications by June 1. They probably are not on top of the advertising and promotion, either. The time to start searching and applying is January-March, even into April is fine. The better markets start screening vendors far in advance. This also means you have to be willing to shell out some cash for which you will not see results for six months or more. (Swallowing hard…)

4. When preparing your application, do the kind of work and thoroughness as you would if you were applying for a job. Pay attention to every detail. Include your business card and some excellent photos. Even a cover letter might be in order.

5. Two day markets don't necessarily pull twice as much profit. Sometimes it’s just twice as much work. Be judicious when choosing these.

6. Reputation and location matter. Research all you can about a host. Yes, it’s hard. I have spent many hours looking. Try not to choose markets that will compete with the "biggies" of the season, like the Houston Nutcracker Market.

7. Weekday markets generally attract customers who are prepared to buy (I can’t do these often).

Here are the markets I am considering for 2016:

St. Martin’s Episcopal Church
Joy of Giving Market
717 Sage Road, Houston
October 18-20, 2016
Tues. 4:00-8:30 pm
Wed. 10:00 am-7:00 pm
Thurs. 10:00 am-3:00 pm
$175.00

Cinco Ranch High School Wonderland Market
Saturday, October 29
10 am-6pm
Setup 7-10 am
$150.00

Champion Forest Baptist Church
Christmas Wonderland Market
15555 Stuebner Airline Road, Houston, Texas 77069
Friday and Saturday, November 4-5, 2016
9:30-5:00 both days.
Check in anticipated Thursday 4-10 pm
$175.00

Festival of Angels
Presbyterian Church, Kingwood
Friday, November 4
1:00-7:00 pm & Saturday, November 5, 2015
9:00 am-4:00 pm
$100.00--cheaper, but it's close to home and I like it.

Cy Fair Mistletoe Market
Berry Center
Lori Preisler Productions
Saturday,
November 12
10-5
The Nutcracker Market is this weekend.
$175.00

Dickens on Cypress Creek Christmas Market
Cypress Creek Christian Community Ctr
Friday and Saturday
November 18-19
9:00-5:00 pm
Setup Thursday, November 18, Noon until 7:00 p.m.
$150.00

Mistletoe Market
Lone Star Convention Center, Conroe
Lori Preisler Productions
Saturday,
December 3
10-5 pm
$175.00

Sugar Creek Women’s Association Holiday Treasures Boutique

First Thursday in November?
Nothing is posted, I have not received a response from my email.
I think it’s $200.00
