Re: Welcome!

Lordy lordy look who's hordy! Hi all-my friend Chris and I are VintageGypsies.

I had a whole hoard of costume jewelry that I inheirited and Chris (really, she's the hoarder)has a ton of handcrafting talent. We put it together to make vintage jewelry magnets and one thing has lead to another...as I'm sure you can relate to. Now, my office could qualify for a reality show. Anywho, we have so much fun doing this altho we both have other jobs that pay the bills (much to our dismay). We love to share info and have a bunch of questions of our own.

We are on Facebook - Vintage Gypsies and would love you to "like" us.

Happy New Year everyone!

Re: Welcome!

HI!
My name is goodlookin, and I am a hoarder! LOL
Well, one difference between what I see in the shows and myself is that I have all my stuff because I want to sell it!
My situation is especially dangerous becuase I have a big house that can swallow up lots of stuff. And it's all good!
I started my shop here in '07 and absolutely love etsy and the people I've met. And I've been pretty fortunate with sales, so it has fed my addiction!

You what the worst is? Ephemera! I have reams of worthy I-know-it-will-sell-if-I-just-put-it-up goodies. But, for now, I am just trying to make the mortgage and clear a little corner. (Which of course, then I can fill!)

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Re: Welcome!

Well, just opened my shop yesterday and still have much to learn and much, much more to add to the shop. I joined your Team because I am a upbeat, quirky person who just loves to joke around. Life is way to short to be serious all the time!

I've been collecting vintage items for the last 30 years and thought it would be great to recycle some of the items that have been sitting around so I can replace them with others.

For instance, I've put up for sale most milk glass that is not in the crest pattern, like silver crest. There is just not enough room in and on the china closet!

My husband has gotten the collecting bug within the last 6 months, so much of the stuff is what he's been finding. We're having a blast searching flea markets for "the find".

I love to research the pieces I sell and often include much of that research in my description. Sometimes, too much, maybe...

I spent 15 years as an English teacher and now am a magazine publisher/editor volunteering my time for a non-profit off trail running group called Orienteering USA. Check it out. It's a fun sport!

Back to the camera and description writing...

Re: Welcome!

Hi Everyone! :)

As soon as I saw the name of this group, I a) laughed and b) felt right at home. Hoarder? YES THAT'S ME. I am obsessed with hitting my local flea markets, thrift stores, and a fair share of yard sales. Which isn't easy because my children are aged 3, 2, and 1! But mama somehow finds a way...

My shop is called "Dreamwylde," which is actually a captcha I came across once time and loved. It seemed in my mind almost like the name of a lovely place (Dreamwylde, England?), so it stuck with me.

I started my shop because I loved the idea of having something I could devote some time to that I really love. Although time is limited being a busy mom, I enjoy every second I can spend on it. What really pushed me into starting it was the discovery that I really enjoyed photographing the things I was bringing home. I spend one afternoon lost in that process, and it was so fun. I finally began to think, "hey, why can't I do that too?" Although to tell the truth, now that i've started, I sometimes feel a bit lost :/

Aside from my passion for vintage, my interests include: reading, writing, baking, ghost hunting, art, poetry, traveling, and spending time with my kids and hubby.

Although I've only started here as a seller, I've been a longtime fan of etsy and have SO much admiration for all the beautiful, amazing, creative shops I've seen. A few favorites: One Tin Drum, 1 Sweet Orange, and Bliss Brownies (to die for.)

I did some freelance writing a long time ago and when I sold my first story, well, I forgot that feeling until now. No boss can make you feel like this, that's for sure!!!!!!!!

Re: Welcome!

Great to be here!

Well, I'm a super geeky graphic designer from Texas who has three Etsy shops (and prays for a day when they finally link it so I only have to use one email for all of 'em). I keep everything, so Tacky Fab is my place to finally share at least *some* of that everything with others. I <3 garage sale-ing, estate sales, and other things that let me find new stuff and poke through other people's old junk. To that end, my hubby and I adore watching American Pickers together :)

Re: Welcome!

Glad I found this team! My bedroom is my stockroom now, its a bit of a nightmare.

I won't do the 5 things, I can't think what to say. Except I'm 24 and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life.

How your shop got started
My aunt wanted me to help her clear out her wardrobes (she has 6 of them and her clothes filled them and several rooms!). She said I could sell her things on ebay. Then I remembered etsy! I used to sell jewelery here. Before that I used to sell handmade clothes on ebay. So etsy was always going to have been my destiny if you see what I mean. I'm new to selling vintage clothing but I hope I can get my shop off the ground. When I've cleared a few bags from my room I'd like to get back to selling jewelery and handmade clothes again too.

What a day in your life is like
Wake up, drink tea, photo clothes on mannequin, go to work, hate work, go home in the evening, list items on etsy, play computer games, drink wine. I hope one day I can make enough money from etsy to quit working. *Dreams on...*

What you do when you're not Etsying
I practise circus skills and go to a community circus club on sundays. I go to rollerderby on Thursday evenings. I live in a housing association (read: hippy commune :P ) and take minutes for their meetings. I draw tattoo designs in a sketchbook, or meet up with arty friends and draw together, which is part of my probably-won't-ever-happen imaginary dream tattoo artist career. Honestly, mostly, I live as a hermit gaming or snuggling my boyfriend. I'm not very social.

Re: Welcome!

My husband and I love garage sales, salvaging, and the hunt for finding new "old" stuff. We are so good at this, we needed an outlet, lol. It isn't mentioned in my profile, that I'm a retired cowboy, now love four wheeling, and camping. I'm crazy about my camera and have another shop on etsy where I try to sell my photos. I love the idea of having so much fun with the old vintage items we find. :)

Re: Welcome!

Hi- Glad to join this team. This shop is my second etsy shop. I "guess" I am a horder of fabric and books. Starting this shop was easy- I really have way too many books and I keep buying more. (inventory!)
And like others I hit garage sales and Rescue Missions looking for whatever to resell. (Because now I am selling record albums, and dishes, and extra fabric etc..etc..)and so it goes...

Re: Welcome!

I can't stand paying full price on new things when thrift will meet or exceed expectations (vintage quality).

I love thrifting, and my shop helps make my trips more legitimate. And there is hoarder in my genes, as mom is a fabric hoarder, and I have yet to list any of that yet.

I work at the library, and enjoy gardening and my kitties. I also started up my other passion again - baking.

I want to play with mixed media art, and I love the instructables.com site, but there isn't enough time at the moment for everything.

My goal is to have my own place and raise foster child(ren).

I am very happy to be a member of HA with its quirkiness. I realized I am smiling to the monitor - well - to all of you!

Re: Welcome!

Hello. I'm glad I came across this team and I'm really excited to be joining a team of vintage lovers.

5 things about me:

1. I have 4 rescued dogs of my own. My life changed after adopting my first dog about 5 years ago.
2. I mentor high school students to enter the field of engineering.
3. In my life time, I've only eaten at fast food restaurants no more than 5 times. Pretty rare, especially living a fast-paced life.
4. I recently discovered an amazing recipe to cook a vegan chocolate cake using black eyed peas as the base...who would of though?!
5.

I sell vintage frocks in my small etsy shop. I decided to open my small shop primarily to keep the love for vintage alive. Also, one of the goals I've set out for my shop is to make it affordable to as many people as possible. In the long run we all benefit from buying and selling vintage, it's a way to truly help keep items away from the landfills.

A day in my life:

I keep very busy. I believe investing in the future and so when I'm not at work I'm advising and helping students with college applications and career advice. Oh yeah, and Etsy...I love it and everything it has to offer :)

When I'm not on Etsy....

1. I read, alot!
2. I look for old furniture that otherwise would have been thrown away and bring it home to make it look pretty for its new life in my home.
3. Discovering new types of teas.
4. Helping in our community garden.
5. Running and boxing for sport.
6. Making collages from salvaged magazines and books.
7. Hiking
8. I go to antique shows...all the time!
9. Look for toys that I can add to my collection.
10. Take care of my flowers.

Re: Welcome!

Good afternoon! Glad I found this team and I look forward to being a member.

Five things about me...
1. Although I don't have any children, my husband is a teacher and I've adopted quite the family along the way... I'm starting to look like the Old Woman in the Shoe!
2. I love to go fishing with my husband.... we never keep the fish and we fish barbless... I enjoy the sun.
3. I live in the midwest and cannot imagine living in an area where the seasons really don't change... I love change!
4. We live with a tribe of three felines.... no I am not a hoarder of cats.... they are hoarders of humans!
5. I am very sentimental... wear my emotions on my sleeve... will cry at the drop of a hat -- and proud of it!

I started my Etsy shoppe as an extension of selling antiques with my husband. A very good friend referred me to Etsy. I started buying here and then took the plunge. My husband and I started selling online initially because we had accumulated so much STUFF we were totally out of control. Now we sell online through Etsy and EBay, at an antique mall, and at shows. We're lovers of so many things antique and vintage... we love the hunt and love sharing these treasures with others.

When I'm not on Etsy...
1. I shop at estate sales, thrift stores, online, garage sales, barn sales, consignment stores, and acutions.
2. I go to antique shows & antique malls -- ALOT!
3. Frame artwork we've purchased... I must have 200 antique frames!
4. Rewire antique and vintage lamps... I must have 50+ lamps I need to deal with, and I can't seem to stop buying them.
5. I'm currently shoveling a LOT of snow!
6. I've started blogging... one post but hey, it's a start.
7. Enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, listening to music and NPR
8. Spending time with my family and friends.
9. I love my feline friends... they are the best tribe of girls I could ask for.
10. Talk too much with everyone!

Re: Welcome!

1. I have ADD, so although I've been meaning to reply to this thread for days, I keep getting distracted and end up going off and looking at someone's shop or tweaking something in mine. This also makes it difficult to complete treasuries, although I promise I'll try!
2. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter who is amazing, but certainly does not help my concentration any.
3. I got a degree in recording engineering years ago and have forgotten most of what I've learned, but hope to make a library of recordings from my antique Mira music box this year.
4. I'm 37, but have vowed not to try to dress/act like people think a woman in her 30s SHOULD act any more.
5. I'm a bit of a hermit, so I don't know what most normal people are like anyway.

I joined Etsy way back in 2007, sold a couple of things I had lying around the house, but had really just been a buyer until I decided to see if I could make a decent income off of selling vintage. I always used to roll my eyes when people would say "You should do what you really love and everything will work out", but now I've vowed to give it a real try.

When I'm not working on my shop I am generally shirking the housework, working out at the Y (God bless the childcare center), practicing Tai Chi, listening to a wide range of music (no auto tune!), and thinking about my shop (I'm obsessed).

Re: Welcome!

Hi!
I'm happy to have joined my very first team on Etsy. I just started selling on Etsy a couple of weeks ago and am loving it. Over the past several years I have sold on ebay, but I'm through with that...I have been a collector since I was a kid. I have always been a thrift store hound, (I still have, love and wear a necklace I bought in my local thrift when I was 16, over 30 years ago). Before I travel anywhere, I find out where the thrift stores are in that town! Okay, I'm addicted. I also go to estate sales, yard sales and church bazaars when I can...weekends. I am incredibly lucky to have a very large 'closet' downstairs where I can store my treasures (and now stuff I want to sell).

My mom was a collector. My older sister is a collector. My dad and brother are not...By day, I am an architect, married, with one hormonal teenager. Thanks for letting me join.

Amy

Re: Welcome!

Hi, My name is Lori. I'm a hippie who was born in the wrong decade, an artist, mother, wife, painter, thrifter & collector of quirky things. I discovered Etsy years ago & finally started focussing on my Etsy store this past fall. I love everyone I have met. The "share the love" spirit of Etsy has made this adventure a love affair. I adore creating treasuries & struggle to shut my laptop so I can get back into my studio. Happy to be here!

P.S. Just like some of you, treasure hunting makes traveling even better. I found the coolest app, Thrift Buddy. It picks up your location, ANYWHERE, and lists locations of nearby thrift stores. I LOVE it!

Happy to help! I just used the app today and wandered into a Goodwill I'd never been in. I found an excellent vintage Christian Dior hat with the original hat box. Treasure hunters unite!

Re: Welcome!

I guess I haven't introduced myself here yet.I'm a little like sadiebess with the ADD. ;-)

Let's see:
Five Things About Me
1. I'm an urban gardener but I would rather live on a real farm.

2. I have 6 kids, ages 21,14,14,10,5 & 9 months. And 2 step kids ,ages 21 (today!) and 22.

3. I learned how to knit because I wanted to recycle videotape. I had huge boxes full of old VHS tapes that were no good and wanted to recycle them so i figured..."Hey, if I knew how to knit,I could knit with the tape!". 5 years later, I've never knitted anything with videotape but I've made lots of socks. I gave the videotapes away to someone on Freecycle and they made a table out of them.

4. As I'm writing this, ADD is kicking in and I'm distracted by convo up there about an app that helps you find thrift store! Really?! I gotta find out what that's about.

5. I have a cat named Luna
