Problem with listings

I am fairly new to Etsy and have only had 2 sales in 2 months. And I love the concept of this website. I keep listing new items as a I create them so hopefully, more sales are yet to come.
But I was curious tonight about a new item I listed today, a baby girl dress. This was around noon today. So I just did a search under "baby girl dress" and was very surprised that my little dress did not appear until Page 15. I understand that a lot of people are adding items all day long. However, what I found disturbing was the number of items listed under this search that are not baby girl dresses or even dresses at all. There were headbands, patterns, a crown, paintings/prints, leg warmers, tops, diaper covers, boys vest, shirts, rag doll, shoes, t shirts, tube tops, shower invitations, skits, aprons, onesies, some home decor items and artwork. And these were just on the first 15 pages under this search criteria. If I listed them here, I saw them at least a couple of times throughout these pages. I can't help but think that if these items were not found under the search criteria I entered, my little dress may have been on somewhere between Page 5 and 10. So it makes me wonder if these listings are being scrutinized by anyone on staff.
Or perhaps you need to have more categories.
For instance, there were so many tutus in there, maybe they need their own category. If I went into a store looking for shoes and they kept showing me hats, I think I would give up and just move on to another store, in this case another website. Does that make sense to anyone? Are people using tags that have some farout relevance to what they are promoting, like you wear a hairband with a dress, so I'll use "dress" as a tag?
I am really venting here, so thank you for listening. But I think there is a valid point in my venting somewhere.

Re: Problem with listings

Vent away :) I've seen that often, sometimes people tag incorrectly I think, to brings in views from largely viewed keywords, and that is against etsy TOU

Re: Problem with listings

i agree that there needs to be some closer watching by staff in this case...did you send a copy of this to etsy? if not, you should. and i agree, it is very frustrating for your/my/our items to be buried amidst a whole bunch of non relevant items just because people are not following rules. if you were to do this with google-try to beat the system-, the "system" would quickly figure the game out and can essentially block viewing access to your site or page...so you end up hanging yourself...i wish that were true for etsy..

D: I can understand your frustration. Since we're selling things on a website, the sooner we can expect someone to find us/our item, the more likely we are to get that sale. I'm willing to bet that a lot of people have searched for "baby girl dress," only to first find a tutu on the third results page and decide to get the tutu instead of your dress!
