I just saw that they are issuing a $5 credit for voting each week. Does anyone know how this works? Or what the new tab above Yes, Definitely, is all about?
It's odd... because if your deal doesn't run... you lose the credits anyway...
however, it's a freebee that you wouldn't have had if they didn't offer it... so it's a win win either way...
moreover... they probably figure that nobody buys more than a few deals a week... so if there are a lot of yes definitely votes (because of sites like this)... but not a lot of credits reserved for the item... they can assume that less people are actually likely to purchase the item than have voted yes definitely...
it's an interesting concept... and I have a feeling the credits will play an important part in the voting process in the future... because you are only given a limited amount... so you will likely only use them on things you think you'd likely buy.
For example... I really want some air plants... so I put all my credits on the air plant deal up for bid right now... they can (rightly) assume that I will absolutely buy this deal if it comes up (and I'll save even more money)....
however, how on earth is this sustainable??? I pay 7.99 for my vip... and they give me 20 bucks a month back (5 dollars weekly) ??? And if I guess right on all deals (they end up offering what I bank my credits on) and purchase all that I say I'm going to purchase... it more than erases any money they make from my vip subscription....
1luv - I also wonder how they make $ to keep this all going, even with the VIP membership.. and good points about how the credits may become a more important part of the voting process, it seems likely!
waterwaif - I wondered that too, even though that doesn't seem fair to sellers who are already offering huge discounts.

Good question! I work in the public sector so am extremely bad at figuring retail (except for common sense!) I think waterwaif might be right although I agree that it doesn't sound fair.
In any case, I think that Heartsy is really trying to get "real" votes for each shop - IMHO to eliminate the "vote for me" threads and so forth.
It seems that with the credits they should really go back to the system where you can see all the deals up for voting at once -- it's harder to single out ones you'd want to apply credit to if you don't know the other options.

I voted yes, definitely today to something that I liked a lot but I didn't put credit down on it. After I went through all of the new deals, I wanted to go back to that one and change my selection so that I could apply credit - but it was a no go. Bummer.
I too stopped voting - I feel like I'm being watched - is she buying what she said yes to? How reliable is she? Well since I'm basing my vote on a few pictures with no prices attached I'm as reliable as I can be and that sure isn't 100%.
I'll have to take a look at this credit thing everyone is referring to. Maybe it's worth the time to vote again?
I agree with you, alyanna. It's all getting kind of creepy! Now they want you to choose yes, I will buy it or yes I will be it more positively and let's apply a $1 of credit toward it which of course if you really don't buy it because you never saw all the items or how much they charged you lose that big $1 at the end of the week. OMG! They should either open up random voting again or close it and jury judge shops themselves like other sites are doing. I almost feel sorry for them. It's like they started all these changes, they weren't working so they just continue popping up with these new random ideas. I do believe if they crash and burn, Quite Unique, CraftyAttic and others will be right there to step in. Don't misunderstand me, I don't want them to crash and burn as I too would love to be featured some day, but they seem to be on a crazy spiral....
If you go into your 'deals I'm watching' it will show you all deals you voted Yes Definitely on and you can apply credit there. That seems to be the easiest way to see the ones you like next to each other. I played with it yesterday because I was curious about how it all worked.
Okay so this is getting confusing. It says (when I went to "pick deals") that if a deal I picked credit for goes live I will get the credit but... the credits expire at the end of the week. So the deal I like has to be chosen and featured before the week is up? How can that be when people are supposed to wait 1-3 weeks to find out if they will be featured and then choose a date? HUH??
PrincessGrace, if I understood things correctly, it means that you have 1 week to assign your credits to a deal(s) or they expire. Once you assign them, they can be used should those deals go live. If they don't go live, I am guessing they are useless. Anyone else agree/disagree? It is a big change to happen and not have an explanation for.
They are trying to encourage the voters to stick to their guns when they say "yes definitely" with the $5 credit. And then they are doing huge amounts of statistical analysis to determine the value of a yes definitely vote....which honestly there is not alot of value. They are trying to connect yes definitely to people who actually buy...this helps build a stronger correlation to the votes and what you actually do....I worked in stats/marketing for some time, and I think this is where they are headed. Tying behavior to action....
