Treasuries and views

So... Just curious... How do some of these Treasuries get thousands of views? Do the curators promote the heck out of them? How?

Re: Treasuries and views

Good questions! I would also like to know how they make it to the front page? Is it the view count/comments?
Sarahmerrill, I love the colors of your paintings. Very cool~

I don't know how they do it either! I promote mine to all my teams and on Twitter, but I don't get more than 60 or 70 views.

Re: Treasuries and views

Also, they are marked as to how "hot" they are the moment you post them, aren't they?

Re: Treasuries and views

Here is an interesting post from someone on another team. It's more about the 'hotness' than how to actually get views. I have no idea if it's right but it kinda made sense to me.

Re: Treasuries and views

That link wouldn't work for me. I'm in the same boat, can't get past around 60-70 views. I promote on FB, Twitter, and on all of my Teams' forums. I also convo all of the sellers to let them know they're featured, in hopes that they too will promote in their own ways.
Not sure if this is cool or not, but I always include one of my own pieces in my treasury. Have yet to sell anything this way though. Grrr. . .

Re: Treasuries and views

Here's a copy and paste in case the link isn't working for everyone:
____________________________________________

3vintagehearts says

Info came from a programmer who tested for a week to come up with the data)

· The treasury is broken down in five categories: views, clicks, comments, shares, and report

· viewing is worth 1 point

· clicking is worth .75 points

· comments are worth 2 points

· If you are a curator and comment you lose .01 points for each comment. This may not seem like a lot but if you have the same score as another treasury, you are the one bumped down. We also don't know how it may affect your treasury after 5 hours.

· If you are a feature only one of your comment counts as 2 points, after that you get no points even if you log in as a different shop. You are wasting your time.

· If you are neither, each comment you make is worth 2 points.

· Etsy has embedded a silent program in all of our computers even when we are not logged in they still know who we are every time we come on to their site. This means that even if we are logged out we cannot come back and try to have our views and clicks register, you still have to wait for the cool off period.

· You only have to click on one item to have it register. There is a one minute time delay for it to show up.

· There is a cool off period in the treasury, every 30 minutes you can go in and have your view register.

· This is the how it works for the first 5 hours of the creation of the treasury.

· The creation of the treasury includes the time it took to make the treasury.

· The first 5 hours is a grace period, you can only keep going up.

· You start out with 2,000 points.

· This point system is how they rank your hotness

· The top treasury on page 1 is around 5,000-6,000 points; the treasury on the top of page 2 is around 2,500-3,000 points.

· After 5 hours the math changes

· this change adds an outside pressure that we cannot see

· It seems that if your activity goes up from the last minute it is a positive pressure

· If your activity goes down it is a negative pressure

· If it stays the same it is a smaller negative pressure

· The amount of difference the pressure makes correlates with how big the difference is from the last minutes activities

· The hotter you are the bigger the pressure is between the differences this is true negative or positive.

· We will probably never know what the math is to this.

A few things to note:

Double posting as a featured artist does nothing. It's pointless so don't waste your time.

Using a second account to post also does nothing.

Posting on your own treasury will take away your points and will not get you on the FP.

ONE click per person counts. The others do not.

Not sure if this is right but it is interesting all the same, I will be taking note to see if my treasuries semm to work this way.

Re: Treasuries and views

Okay I'm a little confused. Posting on your own treasury will take away your points? Does that mean we shouldn't say thank you when people leave comments? It seems rude not to acknowledge someone when you say your treasury is beautiful etc. Is it a no no for the curators to do that?

Re: Treasuries and views

Well, firstly, this is just one programmer's interpretation of the treasury algorithm. Secondly, we can do what we like with our treasuries. There is nothing that is a no no. We can comment, not send convos, feature our own items, whatever. It's only if we want our treasury to climb in the lists that this would have any relevance, if it is even accurate.

I did not know how they calculated the hotness. Thanks a lot for that!

Re: Treasuries and views

VERY interesting... But I'm still wondering, where so these curators promote in order to get so many views? Certainly, they know something I do not.

I read somewhere that to make the FP you can not have your own item in your treasury.

I know! I'd love to know too. I think if you promote the treasury in the first few hours so that it gets up a few pages it helps. Once it gets to page 3 upwards, the views just happen. When I've been in treasuries that reach page 1 the views I get are astronomical! Much better than being on the front page!

I use FB, Twitter, StumbleUpon and post the treasuries on any relevant team pages. Sometimes it depends on the people in the treasury too. If you feature people who are big "networkers" then it's going to get more views. Well, that's my theory anyway :)

Re: Treasuries and views

Thanks for the info ... I need to create more treasuries and wasn't really sure how they worked. I think my first one took more than 5 hours to create as I had to keep going offline and coming back to it, don't think that would help by the looks of things ..!

Re: Treasuries and views

Thanks again for the info. I guess I'll keep commenting on mine, I at least want to acknowledge the people who say nice things and actually take time to look at it. I think a lot of it is luck as well. :)

btw does anyone know if it's okay to Stumble your own treasury?

Re: Treasuries and views

I also thought that it was forbidden to have one of your items in your treasury!:D Is this correct?

Re: Treasuries and views

Most treasuries have an item made by the curator. I know because I make it a point to click on it.

Re: Treasuries and views

If you want to be in with a chance of front page, don't put one of your own items in it. If that's not your aim, no problem!
