Shipping questions...

Hi! I have just had my first sale! I am super excited but also have some concerns about shipping etc. I am planning to ship my scrunchies in a bubbled envelope, and they're going to the U.S.

Do any of you have any tips or tricks you could share with me about shipping? Any problems you've run into? Also, if you ship in padded envelopes, what is usually your shipping cost from Oakville?

Thank so much in advance :)

Re: Shipping questions...

Hi Anna and Bea,

I usually ship my items in a padded envelope or in a box. Shipping cost is based on size and weight. If you start having lots of sales to the US, you might want to check out a place in Mississauga (Tomken and Derry area) called Chit Chat's Express. They have bubble envelopes of various sizes for sale and you can use USPS from there (they take everything across the border on our behalf). You have to get there before 4 p.m. though to make sure your items are listed on the manifold so they can be taken that day. It has saved me time and money. If you have more than 30 packages a day, they may pick up from you directly.

Re: Shipping questions...

Oh My, Thank you for the tip I too am in Oakville.
So far, I find bubble envelopes are the best. I use the Canada post shipping calculator from the Canada Post website when figuring shipping prices to the states. and then create Shipping Profiles on my store. I then use Etsy to print my shipping lables. I find Canada Post calculator and Etsy shipping calculator are the same., so that is good! Usually all my hair barrettes weigh very little so there seems to be a flat rate of about $5 for anywhere in the US. barrettes fall into the ' light packet' pricing. However, for some reason, the light packet feature from Canada post website not apply to items shipped within Canada! Its pretty dumb. So I went into my local hasty market and they said this 6x9 bubble envelope is only like $2.0 to ship anywhere in Canada.
Sorry, hope that helps.
When I print out the shipping label from Etsy, I simply tape it on the envelope and drop it outside in my mailbox. It's small enough to fit through the box slot!

Re: Shipping questions...

Thanks for all these posts! I just got my first sale yesterday (wahoo!) and was a little flustered about some of the aspects of shipping, but this definitely helped :)

Also congrats Anna and Bea!
