Timing your listings

How do you time when to post your listings? I am beginning to post one item every day, but I can't pin how the page will refresh with newly posted items. I thought it refreshed after every 12 min, so I posted at 11 but then it refreshed with items posted 3 min ago and on, not including my item.
The second time I posted something tonight, I posted it at 9min, but that time it posted from 12 min, showing items posted from 1 min ago and on, moving my item further down the list.

How does it work? Is it different depending on activity or is it a set time you can predict?

Is there any way to find the best time of day to post items?

Re: Timing your listings

Wow! It sounds like you have really looked into this :)
I find I get the most activity if I post in mid afternoon - I seem to get activity imediately (I assume the west coast lunch crowd) and then in the evening I get more activity (mom's looking after the kids have gone to bed). This week as been weird, not much activity at all (compared to the last 2months). I thought I had it figured out for my type of listings, but maybe not :)

Re: Timing your listings

I honestly haven't found any rhyme or reason to views. I've listed first thing in the morning and nothing. I've listed in the afternoon and nothing. Hmmm...maybe it's my product? LOL!

Re: Timing your listings

Nice that others are experiencing the same thing. I have found that posting around 1pm eastern time, get me noticed quickly. Other than that it is hit or miss.

Re: Timing your listings

Hi to everyone, I have to say that views have been down a little. I am in Calif. and I find that there is activity usually around 7am before people leave for work, then at lunchtime, then around 5 or 6 pm for non-communters and then from 8pm on. On the weekend it's really hit and miss.

Re: Timing your listings

so glad to read about this. Who knew the time of day would make a difference. I just listed some more items and I did it early morning, simply because that's when my brain works the best. Maybe I could list them in the morning but not make them public until later. Is that possible? Also, I thought they didn't even get posted until hours later. Glad there's a team out there.

Re: Timing your listings

I am still trying to figure out your very same question! I refresh my items a lot whenever I have a minute and I do notice that helps views regardless of time. Oddly, most of my sales or people favoriting something comes at night or on the weekends.

Re: Timing your listings

I've been checking my Google analytics. It seems there are two peak times of the day the first is between 5-8pm est and around noon to 2pm. Sunday is the day I get the most views.

You can check your Google Analytics right down to the hour, it's very helpful.

Re: Timing your listings

Probably trying to vary the posting time is the surest way to catch new visitors, and being aware if you have a target audience (I ship mostly to the US) of daily routines, as Marilyn1545 pointed out. I've got a logical range of times, based on time zones, for pre-work, lunch, evening visitors.

Google Analytics is helpful, but I realized that the peak viewing by hour that I was seeing was usually based on when I had relisted! So, take this GA information for what it is - we control the peaks, to some extent.

BTW, my views (and sales) are pretty flat, at the moment...

Re: Timing your listings

Hi there! I am brand new to the team... I actually used the "help" button and went to a live chat with someone from etsy about the same thing! With the listings, they don't always show up right away. As the person explained it, "listing an item puts it into a giant bucket of other listings. when the bucket is full for that type of item, the bucket dumps and viola! Your listing!" As for the time of day, I agree that I always get the most views mid afternoon and evening. I think people look on their lunch breaks and as someone else had said moms look after their kiddos are in bed :) hope this helps!
