Sewing Machine Help!

So it finally happened... my little sewing machine that could finally bit the dust :( It was the most basic of basic models with less than 10 stitch choices and not a computerized bone in its body.

I'm (obviously) in the market for a new machine.

Any suggestions? I'd like to stay under the $500 price point....

Re: Sewing Machine Help!

i am using now (as our solar sistem cant take the industrials) a bernina from 1963. Suburb machine. Nicely build, its strong and capable to make many things yet easy to use. look for a reconditioned one

Re: Sewing Machine Help!

I have sewn on alot of the machines out there. The most user friendly is by far a babylock or brother. They are both owned by the same company, the brothers are just considered their lower end brand. I know babylock had some great deals on their Sophia (not Sophia2) recently so you can get the advantage of doing some small embroideries.

Goodluck!

Re: Sewing Machine Help!

I have a lot of friends or random people ask me which sewing machine I would recommend for them so I thought I would blog about it. I hope this helps you!

Re: Sewing Machine Help!

I really like my Janome. I spent a little more for a lot more decorative stitches and that was a waste of money for me. I almost never use the decorative stitches. I love the button hole maker. Takes all the guess work out of button holes and I also use it to sew on buttons.

Re: Sewing Machine Help!

if your looking for cheap you could check classified near where you live for a used machine... i got a serger for 40 dollars and another one given to me (that needs repairs) my husband thinks he can probably fix it, though i admit he is talented at that sort of thing so he probably will be able to.

Re: Sewing Machine Help!

I teach sewing lessons and just helped one of my students buy a machine. We went to two different stores and she tried out several, but ultimately bought a Babylock Tempo. Think she paid $529 for it. It's very similar to my Babylock that I bought 8 years ago -- I've used it eight hours a day, five days a week and have never had the first problem with it! The needle threader is probably the easiest one on the market to use -- far easier than even Bernina or Janome!
