Re: Introduce Yourself

Hey, I'm Allison. I'm a college student in Terre Haute, IN, but my parents currently live in Charleston, SC, at least for the rest of this year (military family). I'm a jewelry artist, though I do other crafts, too.
I collect... a lot of things. Frogs, moose, art, shells, makeup... yeah, a lot.
My goals... well, like I said, I'm a college student, studying chemical engineering, and I want to eventually get a job working for NAVSEA or some other defense agency, or maybe oil so I can go back to Alaska. Probably one of those two, but I'm only a sophomore, so I haven't really decided yet. Also, call me cheezy, but I'd really like to get married some day. Oh, and I want to publish a book, too. ^^
Haha, no kids, thank God, and I don't plan to have any, either. XD I do have a fish, though, and a dog back home with my parents. I also have a wonderful boyfriend of almost 5 months now.
Hmm, things I love about Etsy... I love that it gives handmade artists a way to get into business, though I must admit I'm not a fan at all of some of their recent treatment of sellers...
5 years ago, I was just starting high school, 10 I was in 4th grade, and 15, I was 4, haha. ^^
Words to live by...
"When going through Hell, keep going." Yes, stopping in the middle of a bad place isn't a very good idea... =p

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi, my name is Sheila.

I am from Riverside, California. I have lived here all my life except for a 2 year stay in Colorado.

I am starting to make jewelry. I opened my shop a year ago with vintage treasures that had been my Grandma Addie's. My shop is named after her.

I collect tresures from nature...shells, pinecones, rocks. My real passion is collecting vintage treasures. I love the stories behind each unique item.

My short term goal is to get back to work...I had major spine surgery last January, and I am still healing. My entire spine is fused, so I have to learn how to do things differently.

I have 2 beautiful daughters, 28 and 26. I am so proud of both of them. A 4 1/2 year old grandaughter who is my joy. And a loviing husband who is my best friend.

The thing I have loved most about Etsy are the wonderful people I have met from all over the world. I got to meet an Etsy friend from Wisconsin this summer, and I have shared meals with several other sweet ladies. I have also enjoyed sharing my grandmother's treasures with others...it's like a little part of her lives on.

Five years ago I was in Nursing school. My life has taken alot of unexpected turns since then.

The words I try to live by in my life as it is today are, "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staicase, just take the first step." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Re: Introduce Yourself

-Where are you from?
I'm from Florida - 20 miles from Daytona, 45 from Orlando.

-What do you make?
I make crocheted hats for babies and kids.

-What do you collect?
I collect college t-shirts :) I'm a geek...

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term?
Currently, most of my goals are related to my Etsy shop: improve SEO, etc. My future goals include working on my masters and taking a missions trip out of the country.

-Do you have kids? A spouse? Talk about your family!
I'm married to my best friend, David. He's an youth/assistant pastor at our church. We met when we were fifteen, got engaged when we were 19, and married when we were 21. We have two beautiful little girls (aka my models). Riley is 2.5 and Caroline is 7 months.

-What do you love about Etsy? What do you not-so-love?
I love the community and the promotion of all things handmade. I don't like how I'm tempted to spend everything I make ;)

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing?
Five years ago, I was probably hanging out with my husband. Ten and fifteen years ago, I was probably on vacation with my family. We always took fall trips to see the leaves change.

-What words do you live by?
I try to live by everything that the Bible says. I believe that it's true and try to follow its precepts.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi! I'm Marianne and I'm from Fresno California. GO DOGS!!!!!

I make aprons for little boys and girls, men and women and baby bibs.

I collect fabric and scrapbooking stuff because you never know what you might need and it is better to have it and not use it (right away) than not have it and need it when you are working on something.

My long term goal is to be happy at what ever I am doing. I worked for an industry for 13 years and it sucked the life out of me and my family suffered for it. I will never work for a company that make me feel that their company is more important than my family ever again.

My short term goal is to make enough money this season through etsy and boutiquing to cover the cost of Christmas. If there is any money left over then we will take a small family vacation after the holidays are over.

I am married to a wonderful man who has put up with all my craziness. I have two children, a son Wesley who will be 8 in December and a daughter Anne who is three. We love to do things as a family. We like to take day trips, or spend the day in the backyard if the weather is nice. Not working has really allowed us to grow together and become a family. We love to just be together. Life is so much more calm and relaxing for us. Life is great!

What I love about etsy is that it is a great way to network and showcase my stuff. I love that I have created a shop that is representive of me. What I not so love about etsy is that I can't organize my shop in the way I want. I want to be able to put all the bibs together in the shop and all the little boy aprons together in the shop on my home page. I know that there are catagories they could select I just what the page to look a certain way when they come to my shop.

15 years ago I was in college dating my now husband not thinking a day ahead of anything. 10 years ago I had been married a year and settling into this house I live in now. Still not thing to far into the future. 5 years ago I was working at a thankless job dreaming of the day that I would never have to go through another holiday season doing what I was doing. I had just found my love for sewing and relized that I would rather be sewing that anything else.

Words I like to live by: If your not happy it is not worth doing and nothing is more important than family.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone! I am Michele. My Etsy shop is Michele Just One L...because I have been saying that phrase for years, whenever I give anyone my name. :)

-Where are you from?
I am from San Antonio, Texas but have been living in Wisconsin for the past six years.

-What do you make?
I make fabric accessories, mostly Kanzashi flowers. I do headbands, hair clips, ponytail holders, pins, totes, and anything else I can put a flower on.

-What do you collect?
I collect craft books and supplies. Actually, it's more of an addiction at this point. :)

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term?
I want to have a successful, small business that is also an outlet for my creative side. My long term goal is to eventually open a little B&M shop in our quaint downtown area.

-Do you have kids? A spouse? Talk about your family!
My husband and I have been married for 22 years. We have two kids: Andrew, who is about to turn 18 and has his own rock band, and Karis, who is 8 years old and came to our family from China. She is very into American Girl dolls and sleepovers right now and is the model for my shop! We also include our dog, Molly, and our cat, Mr. Kitty Pants, in our family. It's a circus, but we love it!

-What do you love about Etsy? What do you not-so-love?
I love having an outlet for my creations. It is facinating to think that my items are seen by people all over the world! I am really confused about the whole SEO thing.

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing?
Let's see, five years ago I was busy taking my son to his sports practices and chasing after my precious three year old daughter. Being a stay-at-home mom was very different from what I imagined! :) Ten years ago I was working two p/t jobs, as a secretary and a school librarian, and starting to think about adding to our family by way of adoption. 15 years ago I worked fulltime as a school librarian and was able to take my 3 year old son to work with me! I was putting my husband through school and trying to make ends meet. Yikes!

-What words do you live by?
I TRY to live by the phrase "Where you are in your life right now, is where you need to be."

Looking forward to getting to know the team. Thanks!

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone! I’m Gillian and I’m from Dublin, Ireland. I've just opened my new shop on Etsy- Resin Road :)

-What do you make? I make unique and stylish handmade jewellery featuring the colourful georgian doors which line the streets of Dublin city.

-What do you collect? I collect craft supplies (it’s out of control!) old perfume bottles, postcards, make-up

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term? My goal is to make my business successful and hopefully make it my full time career in the future.

-Do you have kids? A spouse? Talk about your family!
I live with my boyfriend and our little crazy kitty, Billie. He’s Dutch and I’m Irish, but he has more of an Irish accent than I do now! My parents are very supportive of my renewed interest into crafts and I'm really grateful for all their encouragement. I’m a twin and she’s also an artist- a very talented graphic designer and illustrator and she’s the best person to brain storm ideas with as we just get each other! I also have a brother who’s an amazing artist and is working as an art director- so the creative gene is definitely in our family.

-What do you love about Etsy? What do you not-so-love?
I love searching for unique pieces and handmade is very important to me- it’s great to know that someone put a lot of their time, imagination and effort into a piece for you and you just never get the same quality or meaning from manufactured goods from retail chains.
My only grip with etsy is it’s very difficult to get noticed. As a newbie I’m struggling with that and I find the same artists featured constantly in treasuries and in the browse sections. It can be disheartening at times. I believe everyone deserves an equal chance.

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing?
Oh, let me put my thinking cap on! 5 years ago I was finished my masters and working with a professor on editing his publication on megalithic art at the passage tombs at Knowth. 10 years ago I was in university studying History of Art and Archaeology. 15 years ago (god I feel so old now writing this!) I was in school, probably learning Irish verbs or math equations- I don’t miss that!

-What words do you live by?
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone!
My name is Jenna, I am 30 and I live 45 mins from downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
I love to make anything arts & crafty, but so far I just sell my toothpick dolls. I started making them when I was 8 years old and I thought maybe I should try selling them (I've got an army building, lol). I plan to sell a variety of more items (I got a list, I just have to put it in motion). I like selling on Etsy because it is like a little community on here. The fellow sellers are nice and the customers are pleasant to deal with too.
I love to collect frogs, Mexican style decor, any types of miniatures and cat and dog figurines (my curio is not big enough lol)
Goals? That is a tough one for me. I don't really have any, I am on disability and I just live in the moment day by day. The only thing that I would love to do one day is maybe open up a coffee shop and I love animals (I'm a vegetarian) so, I wouldn't mind opening up a humane society-type of place but only more like a foster home than a kennel style (no kill of course).
I have been married to a wonderful man for a year now (I don't know what I would do without him, he is my lifeline). We met when we were kids and never knew it (he was even at my house!) We have 8 kids (1 dog and 7 cats)

My saying that I always tell myself when things go bad is: "It sucks right now, but soon I will be looking back on this and saying; I got through it, so now on to the next thing". It works every time :)

Re: Introduce Yourself

Where are you from? Orignally I am from New York. Although I have lived in California since I was in middle school.

-What do you make? I make wheel thrown (sometimes hand built) ceramic pottery. Coffee mugs, Tea sets, bowls, fruit bowls, vases, bird feeders, lidded jars, trinket jars and raku ware (non-functional finished using a special process).

-What do you collect? I don't really collect anything. My house is too full of pottery.

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term? Short term - I just want to have an outlet for moving the items I create out of my house. I love to create, but only have so much space. Long term - I want to be able to create a pottery business. Perhaps someday, when I retire and am not employed full-time, I can do shows and craft fairs, and maybe expand to my own web page.

-Do you have kids? A spouse? Talk about your family! I have one daughter, a teenager, and am married (20 years). We also have 3 dogs and 4 cats.

-What do you love about Etsy? Etsy allows me to sell my items to people who are interested in my work without having to man a bricks and mortar shop. The overhead is low. I can list items, respond to inquiries, and fill orders in the evenings or from my phone.
What do I not-so-love? It is more difficult than I first imagined to have your shop seen. You really have to work at it by favoriting other people's stuff, creating treasuries, joining circles, or listing new items, and now I am discovering teams. I'm hoping this will help get my shop out there a little more. Right now I am only receiving 2-3 orders per month. I would like it to increase this number so that I can clear out more pottery, more quickly.

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing? I was always doing some sort of craft -- painting, knitting, crochetting, mosaics, drawing. I was just not creating as much, as quickly as I am now. Most of the things I'd create back then I would give away to family and friends. But, now my work is going to people all over the United States, and even a few orders to Canada and UK. Its fun to think about someone in Florida, or New York or Wisconsin, or Idaho, or Canada using a piece of pottery that I created.

-What words do you live by? Do no harm. I try to be kind and respectful to all other creatures on the planet, regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, or even species. I am a vegetarian, I do yoga, and I try to be mindful of my actions and how they affect others around me and the world at large. Ceramic coffee mugs, while they use more embodied energy initially, in the long run are much better for the planet than using disposable paper or (gasp) styrofoam cups. Plus most coffee shops give you a small discount for bringing your own cup. And finally, how much more beautiful is a ceramic mug with a beautiful glaze on it. Even in my art, I am trying to do my part.

Re: Introduce Yourself

-Where are you from? Blaine, Minnesota

-What do you make? I sell supplies, vintage and want to sell more quilts, people around me just keep having babies, and I end up giving them away...

-What do you collect? I collect everything, I think I am a craft hoarder. Fabric is my favorite thing to collect.

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term? Short term goal is to finish unpacking my life and get my craft room in order. We moved in June 2013, and I still can't quite get two cars into the garage. Long Term: quit my job and do my Etsy store all day long :)

-Do you have kids? A spouse? Talk about your family! I have three children, Ali (15) Matt (13) and Timmy (8) and a husband of 17 years Jeff. My family is my everything. I work full time to feed, dress and have a roof over their heads. I would rather be home with them, but it is now my time to sacrifice to support the family.

-What do you love about Etsy? What do you not-so-love? I love everything about Etsy, supplies, vintage and everybody being so creative. I get inspired everyday by others. The only thing I don't like is having to repay a listing fee every time I sell a multiple of a supply. That 20 cents adds up!

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing? I was a stay-at-home mom for 11 years, so all those years I would have been at home. In the middle of raising a new family, with a husband that was bringing home the big bucks, so probably eating out too. He was a mortgage banker back before the economic crisis, so times were VERY different back then.

-What words do you live by? It is what it is. You can't always change the situation you are in, but you can make the most of it.

-What do you collect?
Little carousel horses or unicorns. I also love glass pieces in shapes and sizes.

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term?
My goal is to make wearable art that people love to wear.

I love that everyone here love to make things with their hands and has the need to share it with the world.

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing?

Five years ago was when I finally had enough guts to show people some of my pieces and was ecouraged by their repsonses. Ten years ago I was taking care of two small girls while we live out of the country. And fifteen years ago I was taking care of my oldest and being a stay at home mom.

-What words do you live by?
There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Re: Introduce Yourself

My shop started while I was at an adoption party for a friend of mine. I just happen to bring some items that I had made to show her. One of her friends saw them and said that I should start setting up a store to sell them. Of course I thought it was a good idea, but at the time I was only 13, how was I going to be able to keep a store up. That's when I found Etsy. It's easy for me to upload items and cost basically nothing. Enough of that, now I'm 15 and my sewing skills have improved, I started out making crayon rolls and am now able to sew skirts, and other items that are more advanced. Everywhere I go I get great compliments on my handy work. I hope I can keep kids happy with the items I make, it gives me a big smile on my face when I see kids open up their gifts that I make them. Now like I said earlier Kid's are life to me, and it's true. Having three younger siblings and around 15 cousins there's a lot of love going around. I find it hard not to surround myself with kids everyday. On top of my store I babysit, sew and attend school everyday. During the summer I like to sew, sew, and sew. Some of my friends call me nuts, but it's my passion. Everyday I get inspired to make new and fun gifts for babies or toddlers. Hopefully you guys take the time and check out my store, your sure to find something that you love.

Re: Introduce Yourself

-Where are you from?
Hi! I'm Victoria, I'm from California.

-What do you make?
I make hand-stitched pillows with rap lyrics on them.

-What do you collect?
I don't really collect anything in particular, but I am a bit of a hoarder.

-What are your goals? Short term? Long term?
I'm in school right now, studying to be a journalist. I just want to write and travel. I also really want to keep sewing and growing my Etsy shop. It's my favorite hobby.

-Do you have kids? A spouse? Talk about your family!
I'm 22, no spouse or kids, but I do have two brothers. One goes to the same school as me, and we're really close.

-What do you love about Etsy? What do you not-so-love?
I love the community, selling my items. My shop is just a side activity from my studies and main job, but I really like having a little extra money every month, which I spend on buying more pretty things from Etsy. And I don't love fees. I wish it were free, but I understand why it's not.

-Think about this day 5, 10, and 15 years ago. What were you probably doing?
5 years ago I was a senior in high school, and probably performing in Romeo and Juliet. 10 years ago I was in middle school, and 15 years ago I was seven years old and adorable! Probably I was singing Christmas carols.

-What words do you live by?
My motto is you are responsible for your own happiness. I've been through some tough stuff, and I tend to try and make everyone else happy. Sometimes though I have to remember to step back and make sure that I'm doing okay.

Thanks for inviting me!

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi, I'm Lisa and I have lived my entire life in texas (have never even left the state!Though I would LOVE to travel) I grew up in Houston mostly but have had a few years off/on in small country towns. I make artwork/photography but I'm interested in so many forms of arts/crafts, including music. I don't really think I collect one particular thing...i have a very eclectic taste. I love rustic, modern, romantic & all sorts of stuff...I do get drawn to pretty glass kitchenware and neat salt n pepper shakers though:)! I would eventually, in the future, love to have my shop be my full time venture & right now I want to improve myself physically & every other way as well....I really am planning to learn my keyboard this coming year! I am married w/ 2 sweet children who are fussing at each other right now....as the older girl tries to help the younger boy wrap a christmas present!~(maybe they'll make it out alive!) I have a great husband who is awesome at Anything he does & isn't bad to look at either, lol. He has a good heart and loves the Lord..what more could a girl ask for?! So far, I really Love Etsy altogether....be glad when I get my first sale though....just waiting for that day! I love seeing where all the members are from and some of the creations I come across just blow me away! Five years ago I was still trying to "get past" my mother's death...in Dec 1st of 2006. Ten years ago I was pregnant with my son (due in Feb.) & chasing my (about 18 month) old daughter around. Fifteen years ago i was almost 16, newly moved in with my sister, who I really didn't know all that well, and shortly after (the next year) I met a guy, who as it turns out would become the wonderful one mentioned earlier. I know I fail as a human everyday I live...disappointing people here & there but I try to live by the word in that old, old story wrote long ago that still remains true to this day and has everlasting power to help us get through anything we go through in life. Thanks for letting me share a small dew drop of my life with yall!

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone, My name is Christine I live in Manchester New Hampshire but grew up in a tiny town in Maine. I love New England and its four seasons.

I make mostly hand make jewelry but I also love to crochet and craft.

I am an avid Fenton art glass collector. I love going into antique shops to hunt for a piece.

I'm married with 6 grown children. We are truly the brady bunch. My husband has three and I have three. I also have 5 amazing grandchildren.

My goals have changed a little the older I get. Now I am looking foward to retirement and spending more time with my family. Keeping healthy.

What I love about etsy is meeting fellow crafters with the same love of their craft, Having a place to show off your craft and to have a place to buy handmade Items.

5 years ago I was attending my youngest sons wedding, 10 Years ago It was My daughter who was getting married and 15 years ago I Married the most amazing wonderful man. He actually waited 10 years for me to say yes. We've been together for 25 years. I often wonder why I made him wait so long.

The words I live by
Everything happens for a reason, Put your faith in God, Sometimes the answer is no!

Thank you for letting my tell you a little about myself, I am enjoying reading about each and everyone of you.
