Why I LOVE Etsy and HATE ebay.......

UGH!!!!

days like today make me LOVE Etsy even that much more...

I hardly EVER list on Ebay unless it's something that I have that isn't vintage... So it's the RARE occasion.. that I have to list there..

Had 4 Holiday items that are NOT eligible for Etsy so had to list on ebay... Because they charge 10% on the dang shipping (that I MAKE no $ on) I have to add that into my costs... so I do it via a handling fee..

NOW they have it set up so that I cant just change the handling fee for each item I have to "create" a shipping profile to do individual rates... grrrrrrrr

OK Rant over... it's the dang principle of thing..

I don't like Ebay either. Sometimes I find some nice stuff for super cheap at the thrift and think I will sell it on ebay. I never get around to it though.
I guess I need to have a yard sale...

Oh Jaclyn... lol.. this is how I started selling "stuff" in the first place... My thrift store/estate sale addiction.. I need to part with some stuff too.. maybe an after christmas sale for me too.. (non etsy)

I just sold a bunch of items on ebay to 1 customer. I probably didn't set up my shipping profile right, because I thought I set up combined shipping... but apparently not.

So I refunded the buyer via paypal for the additional shipping charges, but I'm pretty sure that ebay will still be charging me 10% of the money I refunded... so... sucky.

NO ebay and paypal will refund you or credit to your account the money you refunded.

As far as myself I like ebay as well as etsy. I sell more on ebay but like the community feel at etsy.

I like both for different reasons. Ebay is way more expensive, but certain things you can get more there. I also like that there's no drama- sellers understand there how ecommerce works- that ebay will do what's best for them, what makes them the most money. They aren't griping moaning and whining all over the place. But I like the community feel here and love this team.

I'm really starting to like selling on Ebay. Yeah, I make less money than here but it was a nice surprise to me when I saw how my customers over there appreciate little extra touches that are taken for granted here (thank you notes, nice packaging and stuff like that).

I've been selling there for like two months and I already have repeat customers. I think I'm going to put a lot more time into ebay next year. For now I just list and run (and still sell pretty well).

That's great Ivana! I agree about them appreciating the nice presentation- ebay sellers are, shall we say, less than careful? about packaging.

Well I have had some bad experiences of shipping here as well. I ordered a wooden sign for my DIL last year. It was stuck in a big mailing envelope. Not a bubble one mind you. When I got it it was chipped. I asked for touch up paint to fix it and 4 months later got it. *rolls eyes.*

Oh, I am sure that happens here too, its just the whole aesthetic is lacking on ebay- that attention to detail and personal touch is practiced much more by etsians, i.m.o.
