SEO Part Two - Selecting Keywords for Sales

Hi Team!

Today we are going to working on Keyword Selection...How to select PRIMARY KEYWORD PHRASES for your shop. This will be the list of keywords that have a the greatest potential for leading to traffic into your shop and ultimately sales.

Most of what we learn about selecting keywords tell us to think like a shopper and figure out all the different ways a shopper might describe your item, the pack your listing tittles with those multiple descriptors.

What I'm finding is that this is only part true. Yes we want to think like buyers but here's the twist...buyers often think in terms of needs rather than specific items...baby shower gift, gift for coworker

For instance, when we go shopping in a department store to find a birthday gift for a brother, we don't know if it's going to be a scarf or a hat or gloves, a pieces of jewelry...we might stroll around a bit to the different areas to see what grabs us! It's like that online too. Shopper's type broad terms for what they need...in our scenario a 'gift for brother'...they want ideas/suggestions, they're hoping to know it when they see it.

So the change for us it to know who and what our items are perfect for and make sure that we get into those searches! If you sell cool ponytail holders...they could be a great 'gift for brother'!...and 'ponytail holder' might not have been on a sister's radar but when it came up in her search for 'brother gift' 'gift for brother' it looked perfect!

So here is the difference: Shoppers don't have to be looking for our items for us to get in front of them. Consider, they are not looking for us, it's not about us. IT'S ABOUT THEM And what they need. AND it's up to us to go looking for them!

So HERE IS YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Start building your list of PRIMARY KEYWORD PHRASES

I've focused on 'gift' phrases because they are universal and very important on etsy where people are always looking for gifts for something!

mom gift
art gifts

but I think the best thing is to look at the whole list and look at the subjects of your cards and find possibly appropriate categories and just put it out there and let people decide if its right for the person they have in mind...maybe they will see something of personal significance for the recipient.

but don't make your new titles yet...we still have to discuss strategy!

Hi Team! Happy New Year!

Just wondering were you all are in you listing building? Hope you didn't move on to the next stage without me...updating your titles and tags?? There are a few steps in between we need to discuss.

For now, would just like to know that you have created an actual list of keyword...if you haven't already store the list in word doc where we will able to organzie them.

This will not be your be all end all list of keywords...just a list to learn with but make it a good list, any phrases from above that work for your shop.
