# 2 - Local Search

- Go to www.etsy.com/local
- click on the three "example links" and check out the search results
- enter a location in the search field and click "zoeken"
- on the next page, change the location under Shop locatie to some non-existing nonsense and perform a search
- change the location under Shop location to a real location (in the Netherlands perhaps!) and perform a search


Things to look out for: site translations, error messages, language in which names of countries/places appear

This is mainly to check on the translations, rather than local search errors. But if something egregious should meet your eye in that respect, feel free to let us know!

Ok let me give you a head start on this one.
First off I don't like 'Doorzoek xxx items in Handgemaakt.' (Handgemaakt as an example category here, counts for all of course).
I don't like the capital in the category and I don't like the period. Both very unDutch. But I suspect this is a template setting you can't change.
I don't like 'doorzoek'. But as it is in fact the only proper translation for browsing I suggest to simply forget the source and change it to 'gevonden'. The most elegant solution would be:
xxx items gevonden in handgemaakt
But if not possible to change fixed settings:
Gevonden: xxx items in handgemaakt

'Wijzig' is more commonly used for 'Verander' (change location, destination).

Destination Nederlaanse Antillen>>Nederlandse Antillen.

There is a lot wrong in the category translations. I will come back to that later, but anyone else feel free.

On the page you linked to, Brooklyn is said to be an example of a 'State' (Staat in Dutch). But Oregon is the one that' should be "Staat" and Brooklyn., I'm not sure what it is but not a state.

Untranslated:
- the buttons "gallery view" and "list view"
- In the "send to Netherlands" drop down list, Netherlands is still in English. The other countries are in Dutch though!

(non translation) Bug:
I was on the page with results for "wood carvings" in "Oregon", then I changed the location and clicked OK next to the city name, and instead of a results page I ended up in the (empty) shop of a person called wood carvings.

I agree with Astrid that "wijzig" would be a better word for "change" than "verander".

Hi!

Maybe there is a bit of inconsistency when using 'winkel' or 'shop'. If you click on a listing, it says 'vergelijkbare items in deze shop' and 'winkeleigenaar' en 'winkelvoorwaarden'. I would choose to call everything either 'winkel' or 'shop'.

I tried to search a Dutch province, such as Noord-Holland or Drente, but those do not work yet ;). However, I agree that that would be extremely local.

When you enter a new location, the page is not completely translated yet. The text above says: ' Doorzoek 2,181 items in Alle items in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.' This could be ' in Rotterdam, Nederland'. By the way, in the Netherlands we use dots and comma's the other way around. So 2.181 would be two thousand one hundred eighty one, whille 2,18 would be two and eigtheen cents.

Bedankt voor jullie suggesties: ik ga ermee aan de slag. Het is soms lastig om bepaalde dingen terug te vinden in de codes, maar ik doe mijn best : )
Blijf ondertussen vooral doorgaan met het melden van dingen die niet kloppen of die niet lekker lopen. In de code is het soms lastig te achterhalen waar precies een bepaalde tekst verschijnt op de site: in het geval van 'doorzoeken' is het inderdaad handiger om het anders te vertalen. Gaan we doen!

Thanks for the input so far - I have been working on following up on your feedback. Not all of it is changed yet (some of it is technical, so it is under investigation) - but you should see some changes already!
