why don't they sell well?

Thankfully my shop is pretty busy.
I am getting many orders a month, however they are mostly for custom illustrations.

I'm wondering why don't my prints well?
I'll get an occasional print sale here and there, but not as many as I hoped for.

I really love to draw and I'd love to focus on creating my own art more

Any idea?
Thanks so much
laura :)

Personally I think because people want the pictures on their wall to ether look more like the people in their lives or they want them to match the decor they already have.

Re: why don't they sell well?

My guess first guess was that your target demographic doesn't invest $ in that particular product: small wall art. I think that slightly larger prints might sell better.

Then I looked at your Quirky Girls tags and I think THAT is where you're actually running into problems. Some tags it screams at me are: dorm decor, dorm decoration, teen decor, teen girl.

I would identify your target for this print to be girls/ women ages 12-30? And mothers of girls. Your tags seemed much more focused on a different audience. Would you consider targeting a different demographic?

I think this applies to many of your other prints too.

Re: why don't they sell well?

Have you considered the fact that many of the pieces in your shop are all listed as 'custom' and that the first page of your shop is primarily custom pieces as well?

I've looked at your shop a number of times but I didn't want a custom piece so I looked elsewhere. Your shop title emphasizes Custom Portraits

Oh and @Crochetgal I was just wondering why wouldn't you just click on the left side "prints" in the shop section? thanks

Love your work! Definitely agree with Bridget - I hope you'll change your tags and work on your titles on at least a few listings as soon as you can! I get search hits daily for dorm, teen, tween girl, and have no doubt you'd get lots of traffic marketing in that direction.

Re: why don't they sell well?

Your prints are super cute... I would say that you just need to reach your target market. They remind me of illustrations in children's books... I would say they are perfect for decorating young children's bedrooms, playrooms, etc. In addition to tweens, consider marketing to mom's of young children and grandparents, etc.
