I was under the impression that the more views you get, the more likely your shop is to show up in a search. Is this true?

I thought the same, but in spite of all hard SEO work I do my products rarely appear in first pages.

The more views your shop gets has nothing to do with its likelihood to show up in search. It is more likely you will get views if your shop shows up in searches.

SEO doesn't work for Etsy. SEO is for Google & other search engines. Relevancy is what works for Etsy which is very similar to SEO.

I'd recommend you both join the Relevancy and SEO for All Etsy Shops team for assistance.
