Re: struggling with views

Have you tried the "regular routine" like joining and being active on teams, promoting outside of Etsy (Twitter, Facebook, etc)? Those are the main recommendations that work quite well if you stick to them. Since I started being active on teams my views per day have increased from 10-20 up towards 60-70 or so/day, a lot more than before. I've just decided to be more active this year, and so far my viewing numbers are a lot better, but not my likes and so far no sales. I will be working more on tags, titles, pictures and listing, I hope it'll work for me, so that's the only advice I can give you.

I have very little experience since I haven't been very active on Etsy up until now, but I'm gaining more experience day by day :)

Best of luck to you!

Re: struggling with views

You should definitely work on your tags. "kids gift" comes to my mind. When you photograph patchwork don`t try to show everything. It would be better to show a nice detail.
And work, work, work...until you find the right niche.
I love your elephants!

Re: struggling with views

I find that I get better views if I list a new item every day, instead of listing a whole bunch in one day, and then don't have anything to post for a few weeks.

Re: struggling with views

You have some gorgeous items. I have 2 quilts I am about ready to list. I have already decided I wont get bummed if they don't sell quickly. I think the same for your shop - almost 25% of your shop is quilts. Those are high tickets items that I believe don't sell very quickly just because of the price. I wonder if it would help you to make and list a few lower priced items, maybe under $20 usd.

Don't get discouraged, just keep working at it. You have some wonderful things that need to be seen.

Use stumbleupon. It will definitely help you to gain more than 10 views once you post a like there.

Re: struggling with views

thanks guys i have made a resolution that i will network more promote more be on face book and tweet more. and generally join in more apart from facebook and twitter is there any way i can get my products out there
@laura i have come to realise that the quilts need a little boosting with some lower priced item so i am working on a lot more smaller priced items to keep me going until i sell that quilt.

Re: struggling with views

frey, when I first started, the thing that made the most difference was this:
Make sure that your keywords are repeated from you title in the first line of your description and in your tags. If your keywords in those place match, then google, and etsy (?) know what you are offering for sure. This is how you communicate with search, so make it as easy as possible. Also, just keep listing stuff. You listings are beautiful, and I am sure a bit time consuming, but if you keep building your inventory, you will have more chances of being found in the sea of things out there. Good luck!

Re: struggling with views

Tag and title ideas. I would never think to put the words "soft elephant" in a search for baby toys. Tinker a little more with your titles until you hit the right formula for increasing your views. Using this example, I might title those absolutely adorable items:

Plush Infant Toy
Sensory Stimulation Toys
Soft Baby Toys
Plush Elephant Toy
Toys for Toddlers
Baby Shower Gifts

Let me go back and look at your quilts to see what else I might suggest. The point is to use title words that a buyer would put into a search engine as they look for a baby shower gift. Your titles still need some tinkering to increase your visibility in the search engines.

One final thought on titles. Don't get disheartened. I've had to tweak mine a gazillion times until I finally got the hang of how to bring my views up! And I suspect most shop owners have had to do that too!

Best of luck! Charming shop!

Re: struggling with views

On the quilts, your titles are better. Not much to change there, although you could try tinkering with a few to see if that increases your views.

Here, I think you might be better to take photos of the quilts on something like the bench photo, or a bed, or in a crib. Same with the pillow photos. Can you create a small background "brand" like a crib with light colored sheets or a bed with the quilt on them so we can see how they'll look on our own beds?

This is all in the spirit of tinkering until you find the right combination of titles, photos and tags that will bring you more views.

You have a darling shop with great items, so keep making new things, tinkering with your listings and photos, and let us know when you need a boost.

Off to heart some of your things!

Re: struggling with views

I am working on adding new designs and building my blog. so far I have had more views but I am thinking that offering my prints for shipping instead of files would lick start my sales.

Re: struggling with views

Going with what Meredith said, you should also incorporate some American spellings into your tags. This listing for example:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/114201480/soft-elephant-plushie-toyhandmade-soft

Your tags say "plushie" but we don't say that in the U.S. (at least I don't) Most of us call it a plush toy. We also use "personalized" and "customized" with a Z instead of an S.

I noticed you have some random tags that will probably never be typed into a search bar.

name
birth date
name and birthdate

Try coming up with other keyword phrases that mean the same thing like "personalized plush" or "customized plush."

I also noticed you have "gift idea" as a tag in one of your listings. I've heard that using the word gift is a no-no on Etsy because it's too general (anything can be a gift).

Re: struggling with views

Hi from a fellow British seller :-)

I agree with points already made, American spellings are important.... When in Rome and all that! Also, maybe pricing in $ would help? I do this so American customers see a nice round figure, and always the same figure. If you price in £ the $ amount will fluctuate slightly each day, seems a little messy to me.

And another very good point which applies to us all I "find your niche". This is one of the most important aspects to selling on etsy (or anywhere!)

Good luck :-)

Re: struggling with views

Also, have you checked shipping prices? I think £10 to ship the above elephant is crazy (not saying its wrong.... But very expensive!)
I think this will also put off American buyers- can you get this down at all? Maybe by including the price of packaging materials and your time to and from the post office in the cost of the item and reducing shipping?
I think the key for us Brits and other non Americans is to make it as easy as possible for buyers in the states, as they are your main market.
- there is also a British version of etsy- folksy.com
I have a shop there that I do very little with but it may be worth looking into??

Re: struggling with views

I just went and had a look at your shop, firstly, you have some lovely items in there, I love your elephants and the quilts too. I think you need to work on your tags, Meredith is right. How about using elephant teddy toy, child friendly toy, nursery elephant toy, for quilts, girls quilt, boys quilt, nursery bedding,
I have been adding gender specific tags because the new browse thing seems to like it. So, if I have a cardigan that is unisex, I tag, girl, boy, baby girl, baby boy etc
I hope this helps, but Meredith has some good ones for you, good luck

I have to respectfully disagree; while I would not say that, my daughter and all of her friends do. They would never say "plush toy", they say "plushie". And they collect alot of plushies!

If the elephant is your unique pattern, I would sell the pdf file. Lots of sellers market their patterns on Etsy and it's such a nice business since there's no shipping, yay!

Since I have become more active in teams, my views have almost tripled. I also get a lot of favorites. December was my best month!
