started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales but i still a long way to 100 items i only at 52 items

has anyone made sales at that number

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

I definitely noticed an increase in sales when I hit 100. I try to keep it over 100 now. Also all the other tips people listed are important. Good photos, a uniform look and well organized sections all help a potential buyer make that purchase.

More improtant than anything else is haveing good SEO and using your tags to your best advantage. Constantly doing research to see what's bring in hits and adjusting your tags to get more of that traffic will bring in more customers. The link listed on the first page is a good place to start.

Another way to keep the traffic coming is to relist items that sell. It seems the more an item sells the higher the ranking in searches. This also improves your SEO because it's a proven item that's bringing in customers and even if they don't buy the popular item, they may buy something else in your shop.

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

There's no magic number. The magic "number" is MORE. The more you have, the more items you have that can be picked up by Etsy search. The more items you have that can be picked up by Etsy search, the more people are going to find your shop.

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

I've bouncing between 150 and 175 items in my shop... Here's the reason why 100 is the "magic" number...

If you have 100 items in your shop, there are 100 ways for people to find you (not including your shop home page, shop pages, treasuries you've made/are included in, profile page, and forum posts). That's like having a brick and mortar store with 100 doors for people to walk in. More doors means more enticing means its more likely that someone will walk in.

That's why you saw a spike at 50 items. You'll see a spike at 100 and one at 150. When I have 175 items in my shop, I spike, too! It is important to have a good size inventory to be found.

But I agree with others who've said to focus on your photos, tags, titles, etc. before listing more items. Because once you start editing, it takes time (especially with 100+ items!)

And someone mentioned cost.... it's up to you to decide, but for me, 20 cents is not much of a cost if it gets me more views and sales.

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

When I tried to look at the "big picture," I learned to think of the 20 cent listing fee as more of an advertising fee. If you list 100 items for 4 months it's $20 total, but only $5 a month. That's pretty reasonable.

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

I've been trying to stock my shop up to 100 items for months now and have staggered around 50-60. The reason I can't build is because I keep getting sales, which is awesome, but goes to show that you can definitely make sales with fewer items listed! I think having more selection helps with more sales, though. A lot of people have mentioned that 100ish is a sweet spot!

I have a Long, long, long way until I reach 100! I'm in awe of all who have reached that magic number. By this weekend I hope to be 1/4 of the way there! I don't know if I could ever get to 100, but pretty sure 50 is a realistic number. Good luck to you all!

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

If you have a targeted shop, a hundred is good. If you have a lot of different stuff, a hundred is bad. It's just confusing. I have a jewelry shop (in addition to art) where I sell handmade and vintage jewelry and accessories. Let's say my modern designs were clashing with vintage stuff and when I reached 100 items, my sales tanked. Now I'm separating handmade and vintage into two different shops. It's a pain but I hope it will help. Then I can have as many items as I want in them. :)

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

I don't know if there is a magic number or not. It took me forever to get to where my shop is now at 150. Yes I am making more sales but then it is the holiday season. I was at 50-56 forever because items kept selling which is great and now that I have reached this milestone not sure I could handle too many more items in my shop. It is a lot to keep up with!

Re: started to think 100 items is the key to make more sales

100 was not a magic number for me. Yes, my sales re increasing, but it's a slow steady process, it didn't suddenly happen when I hit 100 items. My next goal is 200 items!!
