"Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I've seen the pictures a couple of times on the front page that feature a "circle" cropping.

I've done it to a couple of my listings as the main image just to test it out. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

It sort of let's me do the white background thing without doing the white background. So that's good, but...??? :)

I'll post the listing here and see what you guys think.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I understand the concept here, but I actually find it kind of distracting. I think that instead of putting the focus on the piece itself, it actually puts the focus on the cutout, the border of it. With a nice background, I think the attempt at the white background is unnecessary, and the necklace would stand out better on the background itself instead of the background and the white frame.

I hope this makes sense. I took a look at the rest of the shop, and I really like the photos without the cropping

I *think* I agree with you. But, I do what to hear other's feedback. It's sort of a fun look, but like you said, I'm not sure it's focusing on what it should be.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I find it distracting, because the item inside teh circleis also a circle.... If you featured an item that was a different shape, I may like it more. If you are trying to get the "white background" appearance try out Fotofuze, I just started using it and I LOVE it.

Best of Luck!

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

Jasmine, you're right. It is a trial and error thing; I think there is some potential with the different shapes. I think it might help if the background you photograph is lighter, so that the necklace stands out more, and the difference between the white and the background is less severe. I love all the experimenting of etsy, especially with photos. I have been through three or four different types in the last year, and I expect as soon as I have my whole shop the way I want it, I will think of something even more brilliant to try again! Oh, and your necklaces are super cute!

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

Thank you so much! I think I'm going to nix the whole circle crop. Worth the try though!

I think it's distracting also because the first thing that pops into me head, "Oh, cool circle pic" Not "Oh, what a cool item" so ya, not really the reaction you want.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

At first glance, I actually thought that the necklaces had three circles, against a white background. I didn't realize that part of it was a photo. I probably wouldn't use it, just to avoid confusing people.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I agree with some of the comments above- to me it does make it "hard to find" the necklace. I think this would be smarter on pictures that have close to white, light colored backgrounds, or pictures of supply items (like fabric that takes up the whole pic....) I don't care for this concept on your items. Sorry....

I agree with the others. At first I thought the photo was apart of the listing!

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I did a search for hand stamped copper pendant, and yours definitely stand out among the others with the more common wood/stone backgrounds. I think it makes them pretty clickable. I'd do a test with one of your items. Make two listings - one with the circle as the first picture and one with the "normal" background and see what gets more people clicking on your items from searches.

ETA, I just looked at it again, and it does sort of look like the wood is part of the necklace - so it might just be to confusing ?

Sometimes this works REALLY well but it has to work with the product it is featuring and the shop it resides in. Personally I think you have to come up with something that works aesthetically and cohesively for your own product, brand and shop.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

It is distracting. It is a great piece of jewelry and the circle picture seems to take away from that.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I dislike the circle cropping. It reminds me too much of personal web pages from the 90s.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I love circles, I was thinking to do some of my pieces in a circle to break up the similar looking pieces and have others stand out in a different way.

But I think I agree the circle is distracting and takes away from the piece itself. I think because the pendent is circular itself, you want just the circle of the pendant to stand out.

But it might work on an other piece like your dreamer inspiration copper pendant. Because it is a rectangle and you have it photographed in an angle it might just work and frame the piece.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

Like Linda, I thought the circle was part of the necklace too, so I don't think it's a very good idea. I like the backgrounds on your pictures - perhaps brighten them a bit, but keep the texture. I feel it goes well with your shop.

Re: "Circle" Pictures - What do you think?

I agree, because the item is circular the circle cropping makes it hard to focus on for some reason.
