problem - buyer paid a week ago, but left no instructions...

what do i do?
a customer already paid a few days ago for a custom made order.. but left no instructions.
there is no response to email or etsy conversation.
how long would you wait before refunding his money?

For future reference: set a default. So in case a customer leaves no instructions, they get the product shown and described as the default.

In this case, since you are not getting any replies, I would cancel the order and refund the money after a week.

As Bea said, a week would be plenty of time, I'd just refund now and send an email letting them know that you've done so.
We have a default in our other shop that if no variant is specified you receive the colours shown in the first image. Haven't had a complaint yet :)

Click on the receipt. Just above the dollar amount it will say in blue letters "Cancel a Transaction". Click on that and follow the instructions. That only cancels the sale. If they paid by PayPal you need to also go to the PayPal site to refund their money, or refund it through whatever payment process they used. Besure to send them both an email and a convo (just to be safe) that you cancelled their sale, refunded their money, and why. You might want to mention that you couldn't wait any longer as you are on vacation and your shop will be closed for the rest of the month. Also, if they still want the item, you would be more than happy to sell it to them when you returned.

Also if you'll add variations your customer will be required to make a choice prior to finishing checkout.

Terri, I have a problem with that since there is an option for only 2 variation boxes if i remember correctly and that does not covers all the choices...

The other option is to physically mail them a note asking him/her to contact you. Sometimes a good ol' snail mail will do!
