personal FB page question

I have my personal FB page, and my business page that promotes my shop. I don't use my personal page (I'm one of "those") just because I like my privacy. Anyway, I noticed the other day that someone uses their personal page to promote shop items to their friends, and they also have a business page to do the same thing. It made me think how that would increase my audience.

What do you do?

Re: personal FB page question

hey jill, i personally use Facebook as a source of advertisement, it is free after all!. This is also a good way to get old and new friends aware of your shop and what you do.

Re: personal FB page question

I use it for both personal and my business. In my personal, I try to post genuine and meaningful things that I like and that are important to me. I post a few business things on there, but only when it seems appropriate because I don't want my friends to feel spammed. I simply want to remind them that I am an artist and where my stuff is. My business page is the opposite, Its strictly business. I highly suggest using Facebook, and twitter for that matter! They are both free and you can reach large amounts of people. The great thing about both of these tools is that people only "like" and "follow" things that they are really interested in so you can gain true fans of your work. :D Hope that helps!

Re: personal FB page question

Like others I am active on both my personal and business page. I post the bigger items on my personal profile too, like holiday specials or if I'm trying to get more fans and want my friends to share something or am offering a discount. I have more friends than fans (I think some people hate being promoted to so they are reluctant to add pages).

I had a friend who signed up for Facebook only for his business he was starting and added everyone from high school that he hadn't talked to for years then only promoted on both his personal and business page about his own business. Needless to say, he had a lot of friends (who probably hid his post like I did) but not many fans. I think if you use your personal page to promote it should be sparingly and only when you have something special to share that you really think your friends will like and that can't be the only thing you ever post there. I do get a lot more out of my actual page than what I post on my personal profile though since people that follow me do it because they are interested in my products.

Re: personal FB page question

Hello Jill, I first created a fb page for my shop, but I didn't have to many people joining my page. And the people who did join were my friends and family who are not really into vintage clothing. So instead I created a personal fb page just for my shop, this way I was able to add friends and grab people I think may be interested in vintage clothing to take a look at my page.
