My views dropped dramatically today. I don't know if it happens to be a coincedence because of the browse feature now... (it doesn't list paper goods or cards)
Agreed, so random. I looked at my stats and I did have some views of my iPad sleeves from Accessories for iPhone Browse Sections. I haven't included iPhone anywhere in my listing. I try to be true to my product and not misleading in my listings in order to get views, so I'm wondering how this happened.
I shop online quite a bit and nothing irritates me more than searching for a specific thing and getting a completely irrelevant result. So I speak as a seller, but also as a fairly savvy online buyer.
I've never gotten very many views from categories before. I tend to get all my views from search so it hasn't hurt me too much so far. But I do worry that people will look at this this new browse option and think that that is all there is.
I looked through a few of the options and I couldn't even find my types of items. Magnet boards I finally found in storage and organization under home and living but I still haven't found an option for corkboards yet.
I think I need to examine a lot of my tags to see how I'm coming up.
I, too, am invisible today. 1 shop view. This is definitely not the norm for me. I have changed some tags, and renewed some listings today, and nothing... I also hope that people just stick to the search. I'm not sure I know what else to do at this point, even after reading the blog that was sent in the email earlier today. Not really helpful, not user friendly, and it really limits what people see when they use the browse feature.
My views are okay today, but I was in a lot of treasuries. I have 6 views from "women browse section", but I can't find myself anywhere. Plus, none of my items are tagged to show up in the suggested sub categories. I'm definitely nervous. My oct. sales have been low :(
I changed so many tags for my ornaments over the weekend and now, I'm so sorry but I'm confused.... do I go back thru everything and re organize again?
nancy, that's what i'm wondering! do i have to go back and redo my tags? i couldn't find my items as easily as usual. i usually have daily sales, now, nothing, even though i am havin a sale on my halloween items!
oh gosh! i do not like this one bit! just had to change all my earring listings to say stud, not that its helping at all to show in the browsing. as a buyer i will not be using this and sticking to typing out keywords. this seems confusing for inexperienced buyers. why etsy why?!?!?
As a buyer, I don't even go into the categories, I just type it up in the search. There is no way I'm spending as much time going page by page to find one specific item & I'm wondering what the benefit in marketing this has... perhaps for the apps? but there are still lots of us doin' it laptop style.
The only shops that could possibly benefit from this change are the ones that show up in it. The rest of us just have to hope that most buyers use the search box not the categories. Remember the reason Etsy tests changes before implementing them is to see if it ups sales or Etsy's bottom line, which is what all the changes are about. Since this must have worked to bring in more sales, some sellers benefited, while others did not, but Etsy certainly benefited or they would not have made the change.
It is best not to spend too much time hoping this is a temporary change, which is highly unlikely.
Most of my views still come from searches, thank goodness, but I am concerned that these new categories, sub-categories, sub-sub-categories, and sub-sub-sub-categories are going to take customers way too long to find what they are looking for and frustrate us sellers even more than before (relevancy, my eye). In order to find any of my products with browse, I have to go through the "Kids" category (which is weird for me because a lot of my puppets are actually are meant for adults--apparently all puppets are toys and thus meant only for children?), then hit 4 more sub-category buttons to narrow it down, then I have to click through several pages just to see one of my products. What shopper is going to take the time to do this? Really, Etsy? Why did you waste your time with this? How about you spend more of your time streamlining listing options, creating a way for sellers to add size/color/style options to our listings, looking outside of your usual favorites to find a wider mix of shops to feature on the front page, and monitoring copycats and licensed materials?
Ok, rant over. Preliminary verdict on the new browse option: waste of everybody's time.
I'm having to neglect etsy whilst moving my workshop. I'n not looking forward to coming back and trying to work out how to make Browse work for my shop.
I really like it, I've had a few clicks from there and found my items in a few of the browse sections which is great. Looking through it as a buyer I've already found loads of items that I had never seen from shops I'd not known about until today.
Going to tweak some of my listings to take advantage of the new browse but I'm sure most people will still find items via search and the subsequent categories from there - you generally know what you are looking for I guess.
But I'm getting lots of views anyway, from search and 'your listings'. I can see how that would be great for my shop once they have a Browse-category for Christmas, holidays or stockings.
