do you confirm an order?

After someone posted a question asking if people say thank you after receiving feedback, it got me thinking. Do you send a message/convo after you have received an order? I do. I send something like "Thank you for your purchase. I'll be working on your ___________ this week and will let you know when it has shipped. Please let me know if you have any questions." Considering how so many people thought excessive emails thanking customers was Spamming, I'm wondering if sending a confirmation email is too much. What are your thoughts? I guess I just wanted to reassure people that I got their purchase request and am working on it. ?????

Re: do you confirm an order?

I think it's a little too much unless the item I buy is a personalized one and I needed to write specific directions in the notes to seller box. One time I ordered something and forgot to specify something about the personalized order, but the seller never got back to me so the whole time I was worried she didn't get my message. She did send me the correct item, but it would've been nice if she'd confirmed the change with me.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I usually do, unless it is during extremely busy times (like now). I do send my customers a note if the item will take longer than usual, and also let them know when and how it has been shipped and what the eta is.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I rely on the automatic order confirmation that Etsy sends out. It has all the info a buyer needs to know about their order, including my personal contact info.

When I buy something I don't usually receive a confirmation convo and I'm okay with that. I keep track of the order through the purchases & reviews link. Maybe because I'm a seller I don't feel the need to receive multiple confirmations for a single transaction.

I message the customer thanking them for their order and include processing times.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I always confirm orders as personally I like to be kept informed of the status of an order when I purchase online. I've had several good feedback because of that, customers saying that the communication from seller to buyer was good.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I think one of the things about purchasing handmade is the personal touch 'we' provide to our customers. With this said, I always take a few seconds to reply to each and every person that orders from me. I usually say something very similar to Alisia...."Thank you for your purchase. I'll be working on your ___________ this week and will let you know when it has shipped. Please let me know if you have any questions."

Most of the time the customer replies back with "WOW I didn't expect a personal reply, Thank you!" or "Thank you for letting me know your shipping times"...

My customers seem to really appreciate it : )

Re: do you confirm an order?

Alisia Marie,
I do the same as you. I send a note saying thanks for the order, it will ship on such and such date. Also, a handwritten thank you in the box.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I do what mentioned above. I send a convo saying thank you with shipping times. I think it's more personal and professional also.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I usually do so that they know that I received the order and will be working on it. Personally, I'd like to get a confirmation email when I place an order. Otherwise, I wonder if the order actually went through, etc.

Re: do you confirm an order?

Of course I confirm orders.
I am not a huge company nor a computer. I design, make and sell my own unique creations. That involves contact with my clients, thanking them for their purchase and informing them of shipping day and shipping time.

Re: do you confirm an order?

Yes. When I place and order and don't receive a personal message I tend to worry it didn't go through properly.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I send out a thank you convo with the date I'll ship... I dislike it when a seller doesn't do this.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I don't, but my items are instant download so no need :-)

However- I used to sell physical items and never did. It seems I am in the minority. But with the etsy email, the PayPal email, the shipping notification it all seems a bit much to me as it is. I guess I would if it was going to be a week or so until it was shipped. But otherwise no. However- each to their own, do what makes you feel happy :-)

Re: do you confirm an order?

Yes, I do as most of you. I encourage them to contact me if there is a problem and also request that they return to leave feedback if they're happy with the item.

Re: do you confirm an order?

Yes, I send an email confirmation as soon as I see the order.

In my email I'll thank the customer for their purchase and let them know when it will be shipped. I'll also give an approximation of when it will be delivered.

In the same note I'll also ask the customer how they found my shop/ items. That information has been invaluable over the years to help me with my marketing.

Re: do you confirm an order?

I usually do send a confirmation that I received their order. I don't make it super long or anything. I let them know that I'm working on it and that if they have any questions to contact me. I try to make it sound warm and welcoming.

Re: do you confirm an order?

Yes, I do. I think the word "spam" is used too much on Etsy even when it is not really a spam. Also, whoever calls this kind of email "spam" is normally a seller who doesn't send convo to confirm orders. Some of the customers don't even know "convos" exist and letting them know there is a way to contact the seller helps if something goes wrong. I had some orders got lost or took too long. Instead of them leaving bad feedbacks, they all contacted me first. I personally don't mind if I don't receive a convo after I order. However, there were several times I was wondering if the seller saw the message I wrote regarding the order, since I didn't receive any convos after I placed orders.
