Your name as a Tag

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share with you that I was looking at my Stats and it shows that someone (think it was my friend) had gone into Etsy and just put my name (not shop name) into the Etsy search. Luckily for some reason I had used my name as a tag on a pair of earrings, so they were able to find me. I will be using my name as a tag for a lot of items now, so that people who know me and don't know my shop name can find me on Etsy.

Does anyone else do this?

I did read somewhere on Etsy that it's a good idea! I've used my name on a few items!

It's one of my top searched tags...so I tend to use it a lot.

I do it, definitely! I get relatively regular searches for my name. (Esp. if one of my friends is showing one of her friends....etc. :P)

I read that on a forum discussion some time ago. We have been using our name as a tag for awhile. It doesn't show up in our stats a lot, but it does every once in awhile, and even an occasional view is good!

I use my shop name as a tag when I run out of ideas and still have 1 or 2 tags left to use. It helps. I think I get at least 1 hit off my name every day.

Absolutely....from the very first day. I have had a lot of "Direct Traffic" because I sent the direct address to everyone I know.

I have been doing that since opening on a few items. Usually the ones that I just can't think of enough tags for!!

I use my shop name as a tag simply because I'm known by that name not only on Etsy but on every venue where I have an online presence.

I also use the same name at all the artisan fairs that I attend so many people will search for it.

I don't get it. If I search for kiltedwoman in the search bar etsy automatically says "did you mean the shop kiltedwoman?" and directs you to my shop. Why would this tag be helpful?

@KiltedWoman, they're actually talking about your name, not shop name. So instead of using KiltedWoman as a tag, use Lori Cook. Your shop name is already searchable, but since your name isnt, I guess that helps if people are actually searching for you and not your shop.

I don't use it on all my items but enough that someone can be sure they've found me when they search for it. It turns up in the search terms more often than you might think, probably due to linked in or Pinterest.

That's a great idea! I've been using my shop name as a tag for a long time but never thought of using my name! And why not? I've tried searching for people by name before! Thanks :)

I often use my shop name as a tag, but don't think I've ever used my personal name. Guess it's worth a try!

I have been using my shop name as tag since I opened my shop and I have had some traffic from "keywords" search.
