Wire Wrappers...

Hey Guys,

Ive been playing around with some 24 guage wire i have at home, and im really liking it, its fun and i love how you can morph it into whatever shape you please... almost.

I would love to learn more about wire wrapped jewelry.

Anyone know any sites that have good info, tips, hints, tuturals etc?

Also if you are a 'wire wrapper' yourself, what guage wire do u use?
what are your favourite things to make?
and is there a good place for supplies on etsy?

Thanks guys!

Re: Wire Wrappers...

I am a wire wrapper, I teach traditional wire wrapping locally and sell tutorials. I would suggest that you take a beginner class locally so you can start with good technique & the basics - straightening wire, bundling square wires, about the right tools, wire hardness, gauges and types.

Depending on what I'm doing I used either dead soft or half hard wire, I prefer sterling silver wire, usually square & half round, ranging from 24 or 26 gauge in viking knit to 10 gauge for a neckwire omega.

Re: Wire Wrappers...

This site is wonderful!
http://www.beaducation.com/

You can use any gauge, depending on size bead you are wrapping. Lampwork beads, like mine, have a bigger hole and generally require a smaller gauge wire. (thicker)

Lots of great suppliers here on etsy...
Have fun!

Re: Wire Wrappers...

Thanks guys, unfortunatly there is no craft classes what so ever, anywhere near where i live, so i rely on internet to teach me.

Ill have a look at that site and keep searching around, maybe even purchase one of your tuturals Terri!

Thanks again

Re: Wire Wrappers...

I live jewelrylessons.com too, they have great tutorials. Recently they have begun to limit you to 2 free tutorials per week. Youtube is also a good resource, sometimes I find video easier to learn from.
