Why Re-List?

Can someone explain to me what re-listing an item does? I read that it changes the way your product shows up on search results......Have any of you re-listed an item and did that help your shop?

A helpful explanation would be very appreciated! Thanks guys :)

Re: Why Re-List?

I've been trying to figure it out too. When I relist an item, it doesnt' seem to make any difference in the placement when I do a search. I believe that relevancy is the first criteria, and then recency. But it really doesn't seem to me to change things when I relist.

Re: Why Re-List?

Re-listing will definitely change where your item appears if buyers are scrolling through categories. As far as searches, Etsy uses algorithms that apparently take into account how often your item has been relisted. So to my understanding, items listed for the first time will likely not be early in searches, regardless of how well you title them. I've noticed that my most popular items appear early in searches, so perhaps there's something to it... ?

Re: Why Re-List?

I have yet to relist an item. I could be doing better, but I seem to sell regardless. Most of my items either sell immediately or take time and sell just out of the blue. I hate to pay Etsy more when I don't sell expensive items. But it seems like I'm the only one who feels that way.
