When to start a DBA for etsy.

Ive been advised to start a DBA for my shop and im wondering how all of you have dealt with this. Is there a time frame or certain amount of profit before doing the DBA i have read that some people have never started a DBA and they have been selling for 4 years i would love to have some knowledge from all of you on this question. Thank you so much.

I think you mean getting a business license.

A DBA stands for "Doing Business As". You can have up two DBA's for your business. My old church was technically, "Lighthouse Community Church." But they had the DBA of, "Lighthouse Community." Also, at my old job, we had two dba's, one for the company we aquried and one for our most commonly purchased item since people wrote checks for those two.

But you'll need to look into getting your buisness liscense.

I'm in the process of that myself. I'm wanting to open a business checking account. You'll have to sign up for your state's Dept of Revenue to get a tax ID and begin collecting sales tax for any in-state sales. As far as my checking acct goes, I've also had to file at the courthouse for my county. An announcement must be printed in the local newspaper at three times regarding your "new" business being established. I got a form that has an embossed seal on it from the county. I do not have a brick and mortar store but I had to do it anyway. Always another hoop! I think I just about have things in order. Good luck!
