Hi teammates,

You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?

I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.

Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

HELLO, mine is Nostalgia Siempre - I like to think of it as memories forever. The idea is to take a memory from yesterday, turn it into a gift for today that will be cherished forever.

My shop name means "strong and delicate". I named it as a representation of myself during my fight with anxiety and depression.

Hi,
My shop name is "Fairy Mandala"
Someone about 1,5 years ago called me "Fairy" because I was dressed like a fairy. The second part means that I'm very close to buddhism and they also looks very nice together.
I have pink hair and this is not only a color, it's a philosophy of my life because when people look at me, they usually smile. I want to make people more happy so I make colorful jewelry :)

Great thread!

My shop name is a combination of two things near and dear to my heart: where I live, Orange County CA, and Juniper is after my first dog, Jennifer Juniper.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop is named after what i love, the marriage between spirituality and the metaphysical world. Its a world that i grew up in; all the way from my great grandmother to me, all being able to use our spirituality and our ability to connect with the angels to help those around us. I love reading about the meaning behind other shops and I'm so glad to be able to share whats important to me with all of you!! Blessed Be!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

How interesting it is to read how others name their shops!!!

My shop's name comes from two places.

The "Crochet" obviously comes from what I LOVE to do, and what I design and sell in my shop. The "Soft Heart" part originates from how a number of people in my life have described me, and it was meant more as a criticism than a compliment. They said I had a "soft heart," which meant I was too nice and too sensitive. I thought about it for a while and decided that the words "soft heart" described EXACTLY how special I am--a unique person who lives to love and feels deeply about life's experiences.

I chose to name my shop SoftHeartCrochet because I want it to be a reflection of that special ME.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Interesting topic, thanks for starting it!

My shop name came from combining two words - Ariadna + yarn = Ariyarna. The first we know from Greek Mythology, it is a woman who help Theseus - a man she fell in love with - to kill evil Minotaur by giving him a ball of yarn to guide him out of a labyrinth where the Minotaur lived. And the second part is - obviously - yarn - it is the most popular material I use :) Quite simple and this name was short enough and not taken by anyone. I then added Boutique to the end to emphasize that I do care about quality of my creations.

I was joking around with my mom. Apparently, I was too sassy, because she said, "ok, Miss Sassy Bee!" Lightbulb went off!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My business and desire to succeed are driven by my children. So when it came to naming my business it seemed only right that they played a part in that. Samigail is a combination of their names and the rest is just descriptive (handmade personalised gifts)

In all honesty, I have no idea where my shop's name came from! I wanted something that sounded old and vintage, I guess it does :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My business started years ago as AbsolutelyDottie. Over 25 years ago, my mother in law ran a ceramic studio and she taught me many ways to paint and embellish my pieces. The one technique I used often was making dots with the backside of a paint brush. I then would apply dots to everything I did as well as all of my doodling. So when I was searching for a business name, I came up with AbsolutelyDottie in honor of my mother in law! Over the years, I started to diversify my creations and I now operate DottiesWeddings, DottiesDogs, DottiesCelebrations & my sister operates DottiesChairpockets. The best part of my businesses is DottiesDonations. A portion of my sales goes towards several foundations I have started, The Tommy Foundation (provides handmade blankets to my local hospital. I volunteer at the VA and the residents in their memory care unit and I make them together. Children's literacy, I helped create the Literacy Library at the Midtown Utica Community Center and continue to provide books and animal rescue where donations are made to the Mia Foundation. DottiesDonations gives my businesses such purpose, helping others. Also, I just love it when I hear from people and they call me Dottie! My name is actually Nancy!! I am so thankful for Etsy and being able to continue to diversify my businesses and my need to continually create. My website is www.absolutelydottie.com and each shop is listed and directly linked to my etsy shops. Thank you ETSY!!!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

SiltiCrafts because Silti in my native language means warmly, kindly, sincerely, heartily and fondly. Silti is where your home is. Silti is where you are kindly welcome, silti is where you can enjoy your time and yourself, feel good and cozy. So, SiltiCrafts because I wanted the name to embody warmth, simplicity and homely feel. I must admit I love how it looks in my shops logo that is written with meaning behind every sign. :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Such an interesting thread for a curious one like me! 😃
When deciding what the name of my shop would be I started thinking about how it would look like if it was a real life shop... You know, the furnishing, the vibes it would give... And I imagined it as if the odd and bizarre world of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland met the atmosphere of a dickensian old timey shop!
So there my name was! 😉
Oh, and 'J' is the initial letter of my real life nickname: Jailet! (Mariagiulia is my real name)
Now... My english isn't so bad, right?! 😁 (I'm italian)
Hope I didn't bore you! ☺

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hi, my first post here! This is a lovely tread, I read so many interesting sotries I thought I'd share mine too.

When I had to choose a name for my brand I wanted something to express how creativity is important to me and to what I do, so the "idea" concept had to be there.

I also wanted to tell a bit about myself, about who I am and where I come from. Well, I'm from Naples, Italy, we all have a very strong bond to the sea here, also almost every happy childhood memory of mine have the sea in them.

It popped to my mind, then, that the latin name of the starfish is, indeed, Asteroidea. It had the sea, the "idea", and the star too (aster), which is always a good thing :D

The 3D part is there because I use mostly 3d printers to create my products ;)

I went through several name changes and decided on Pet Portraits by NC in order to come up when someone does a search. It's not very imaginative, but after many years in business it has proven to be most effective.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

When I was a kid my grandpa always called me "Daisy" because I had a little hat that reminded him of a daisy flower.
To always remember that I decided to use it for my art name, only I switched it to the Afrikaans word - madeliefie. I thought madeliefie is an impressive name, plus I liked that liefie means honey! :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

There's something special about the wind, especially when it rustles leaves in the trees. Initially i was planning on just selling stained glass and mosaics pieces (hence WindsweptGlass) and was encouraged by friends and family to also include the crystal and gemstone jewelry I make.

i drew up a little sketch of a windblown tree and gave it to a graphic designer. She said the sketch reminded her of a Divi Divi tree found in the Caribbean and used that shape to create my logo.
