Hi teammates,

You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?

I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.

Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name is GarKnitAndPurl which was meant to be a shop for my hand knitted items. I wanted to incorporate me and my husband because he has always supported me and my crafting, yarn buying and looming craziness. So the name came from my birth stone and his but also the knitting terms of knit and purl.

Very funny stories!
Here is my story about Black Ficus.

I love ficuses, I have several kinds at home. When I sewed the first bathrobe, I began to think about the title of my store. I was always very difficult to come up with the name. I was sitting with my husband a few hours and could not think up anything. To calm down, I picked up the pot with ficus. And then it dawned on me - ficus! The husband said that he likes, but it is better to add one more word, then there would not seem that we are selling ficuses.
Then, came the word “black”.
When we told friends, they were told that they have one sexy association with this collocation, but it's a secret.))

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

IT STARTED WITH A DUCK!

I love my grandchildren. The very first product I ever made was for my granddaughter Mae—the Duck Step Stool. I thought it’d be a great way for her to reach the kitchen and bathroom sink, but I was delighted when she used it for activities driven by her imagination—a veggie stand for her store or a bench for her stuffed animals at tea-time. The magic found here inspired me to build out the South Bend Woodworks toy line and create classic American products that are made to last generations!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop is kind of a tribute to my mom who passed away when I was young. What I remember most about her was her passion for nature and conserving what is most valuable to us- our natural environments and wildlife.
When we used to go to the beach together as a family of 5 brothers and sisters she would encourage us to pick up at least 5 pieces of trash before leaving.
As a surfer, I continue this tradition with my family and not only do we clean up the beach everyday, we also find driftwood, sea glass, shells, fishing lines and nets, ect. that I use to create the articles I sell on etsy.
So, STEWYS stands for Save The Earth While You Surf.

The Franciscan Wallflower is a tiny bouquet of four-petal flowers endemic to the Northern California coast. The (surprisingly rare) flowers bloom through to the end of spring -- and having opened shop the day before summer, it seemed fitting!

I finally opened my store earlier this week -- and feature minimalist fine art photography. Excited to be here! Anxious to see how I perform! Hope to make some friends.

I had a hard time selecting a name and focusing on 1 product because I enjoy many avenues of crafting...

So I selected a name that encompassed of all of the areas I enjoy creating in Knit Knack Sew.

Hi All
The story behind my shop name is quite simple.
My real name is Séphora and the meaning of this name is Little Bird
I just had before the translation of Miss which is Mademoiselle in French.
The number 2 is prononciated like "de" in French so I replaced the "de" of mademoiselle by 2;
You get it?
Finally you 've got my shop name: Ma2moizeLittlebird

My shop name, Curlicue Creations has a double meaning. I specialize in quilt designs. The quilting often looks like curlicues. My hair is has always been extremely curly, so curlicue fits me, too! I chose "Creations" because even though I specialize in quilting, I have many crafty passions, and I wanted to have a flexible name that could still be relevant if I change my artistic direction.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Words are powerful - no wonder people say "the word is mightier than the sword"! I find that this still holds true in many situations, and especially in the online community, where we have to explain and describe so much more than in real life in order to get our point across or to make a sale. I got into copywriting because I know that the right words can make all the difference when it comes to achieving success. Words can make one victorious. So I thought, "why not let people know that good writing can equal success?", and since I love a great tongue-in-cheek play on words, I decided to combine potential victory with my own name because I want to be the one to help you get there!

I make greeting cards and I wanted something that fit my style and cards. Cards that were a little bit "strange" and not the normal basic cards that people usually buy... and I Make cards that might not have to do anything on holidays.. just normal days. So.. " Strangerdays" get it? :D

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shopname is pretty straight forward i guess. I myself have been captivated by the labor of making collages. Also, people have said they find the name perfect because they themselves are captivated by my work. There is always something "off" that draws the eye in.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My mom and I went round and round about our shop name for months -- we could not agree on anything! We sort of let it sit on the back burner and thought, "alright, we obviously can't open an etsy shop until we have a name." We wrote down keywords on index cards and started blurting them out to see if anything would come together. We liked the word Emporium but didn't have a clue what to pair it with. The address to her house is 314. A light bulb went off and I said "how about Emporium Three-Fourteen (not to be confused with three-one-four, haha)?" We both looked at each other and said "that's it." We wanted something that could possibly be the name of a brick and mortar if we were to ever get that far one day -- it just felt right!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name Da Mano is a little game related to my surname's history.
We suppose it is related to Venetian ancestors coming to live in Crete island and that stayed there, changing their name to something sounding more Greek. This means my shop name is the actual name those far ancestors had.
I really liked the idea of having a name that is related to hands, as my occupation is working with my hands, and...voila, Da Mano came to life.

My name is my initials, Lawrence Edwin Olson. My brother and I designed my logo which is made using my initials when I was making realistic ribbon roses, parachute chord and leather belts. After moving to Gallup I took a beading class and I have stuck mainly to making jewelry.

Lake is my middle name :) I prefer my middle name over my last name. When I was younger, I HATED the name Lake and wanted a "normal" name like Ann or Marie. Now I embrace the weird :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop is named after my newborn daughter (avatar picture). I want more time with her and less time away from home. Oh and I love vintage picking! Books, Vinyl, anything I can get my hands on. Looking to learn and grow. Thanks for reading and comments! Still looking for that first sale, but just been over a month open now.

My shop is named after my dog Dolly (avatar) I love to knit and I became disabled with a chronic illness and not being able to work. I heard etsy was a good place other than ebay to sell knitted item, hence my shop opened last July, and I haven't stopped knitting chicken jumpers for ex-battery and featherless chickens.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hello everyone i'm currently kinda new to this whole etsy shop thing.
But i wanted to join in on this thread.

My grandma taught me how to make odds and ends from old t-shirts and pillos cases which was pretty awesome. I started making hair bows because i really didn't want to pay the big companies 6 to basically 10 dollars for a tiny hair bow that would easily break.

I started working at this amazing place called Emma's House , it's a place for teen with special needs. So i though i would help the place out and raise money for thing we can use or go like van repairs or feild trips to toys they can play with and clothes they need in case they had an accident.

but finding customers has been a rough road trip .
