What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

I make a lot of anime related art, so I try to listen to anime music, or something that can go with the theme of my drawings. Mostly though I listen to podcasts.

I usually listen to psychedelic trance music and full on while I am dyeing. The high bpm keeps me moving quickly and the mental stimulation of the genre keeps my focus on what I am doing. On Thursdays I often do some kind of throwback Thursday thing. I often cheat a bit and do synthwave which sounds oldschool, other days Thursdays I might go goth, or post punk. Wednesdays are "drum and bass Wednesday". I think music choice greatly influences designs and the nature of what you create.

Hi! What a great question. When my husband makes our copper art, classical music is playing, mostly Mozart he says. Myself, when I write, I love to listen to a combo of indie, rap and '80's rock! Suppose it depends on which character is taking shape on the page!

I'm a Radio and Podcast addict, so I usually listen to someone talking whilst I work - I find it soothing! At the moment I'm obsessed with The Adam Buxton Podcast, The Penguin Podcast and The Archers... Am I weird? I do love music, but if I put music on I get too distracted by it.
