What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

When I create stuff - I listen audiobooks :)

At the moment, when my spirit is SOOOO down I am listening classic Polish music of student travellers and hikers "Good old marriage" and also some folk tune called St Nicolas Orchestra .

I like to listen to Billy Idol, Blues and, of course, Christmas songs at the approach of the Holidays.

I listen to The Tea Party, 90s rock, Melanie Martinez, Zeppelin, The doors, Nina Simone, and many more. I love listening to podcasts as I work...Welcome to Nightvale, Christian Hull, Jenna Julien and Joe Roegan are all great entertainment value. Also Audiobooks...anything narrated by Neil Gaiman.

I work in my gift shop, Little Blue World, in an open plan market space. I am right next to my partner's and my record store, which my etsy shop, Abbazappa, is named after. So I listen to all sorts of music, whatever is playing in the shop, whilst I make my record clocks. If I am getting to DJ in the record store, then I play my favourites, Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Abba, Reo Speedwagon, whatever I can get away with. We also play a lot of music by local Irish artists, supporting our local talent. Its never the same 2 days running.

I often listen to podcasts or audiobooks while crafting. It makes me feel like I'm getting twice as much done ;)

Like getting smarter while crafting, or getting my entertainment fix while crafting, so I dont feel as great a craving for books when I put my work down.

But sometimes during the year, getting in the mood for making christmas baubles, I like to listen to Pentatonix christmas songs, like this one :

I like to listen to music that expresses complex emotions, since much of my style is inspired by putting emotion into visual representation. For more upbeat inspiration I listen to Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, Funkadelic, and others. On a darker note, when I'm exploring heavy emotion I draw inspiration from SuicideBoys, Eyehategod, and Perturbator to name a few.
