What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

My toddler loves to listen to dance music, so we listen to upbeat music he can groove to!

I enjoy listening to Yo-Yo Ma. It is relaxing and helps me remain calm and patient when I am learning how to make different styles with paracord haha.

When I bother with lugging the CD player back to "my" workspace (basically a worktable, ironing board, and cabinet all of which are in the guest bedroom) I usually listen to Baroque/Classical music. Also really like harps.

I get into really weird moods - either I need something intense and/or upbeat or I need something calming. When I need something calming I usually go for LIGHTS - her acoustic albums are beautiful - or Tom Rosenthal or Conor Oberst. I can listen to Tom Rosenthal for hours when I'm in that mood.

Video game music is ideal for me as it is usually instrumental and allows me to focus on what I am doing whilst creating a nostalgic and comforting ambiance.

I only listen to music when I draw. It helps to turn off the logic and frees emotions. The music I like different - rock, deep house, jazz. Sometimes, listening to a local poet who reads his poetry about love under the well-known melodies.

I listen to a mix of music I loved in High School and country music I now enjoy, current music I have learned to enjoy from the kids on the school bus I drive. Seems to make the time go so fast and helps my creative flow when I am basing hundreds of items at a time.

Shonnen knife is what i am listening lately while working. It makes me calm and happy. Sometimes I put music with very low volume so it becames just a pleasant background noise.

When I'm working, I tend to like silence. If music is on, i'ts very low volume. I like a diverse range of music. Favorites are both Old School R&B and Rock, Jazz and Gospel.
