Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

What are some songs or artists you often play in the studio? Share your thoughts and music recommendations in this thread!

LOL. At some point I'd love to put on some 80s music. But usually I'm just listening to my kids play or call me.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

Great question!

Our taste in music is so eclectic, we have so many things in rotation:

80's Alternative, New Wave & Post Punk (B52's Talking Heads, New Order)
Lots of James Brown!
Old school Hip-Hop, Funk & Soul
Johnny Cash
Old school Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Sabbath, etc...)
Sometimes we just listen to pod casts and news.

BTW, Happy New Year!

When I was in school my pottery instructure, would play classical all the time. He always said when you become adults you will appreciate it. Well he was right. I listen to classical music in my studio while creating my works of art.

R&B, Slow Jams, Pop, Reggae or Gospel. I like the way each genre brings out a different vibe in me . R&B/Slow Jams are slow and melodious and smooth enough for me to focus on my work, Reggae is fun and upbeat, Gospel provides unlimited uplifted messages, and Pop brings out my creative side which is very essential to my work.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

Music- all depends on what I am creating or working on..I have several projects going. If I'm creating steampunk, I listen to funky rock. If I'm creating Shabby Chic, I listen to "sweet" music. If I'm creating my rings or pincushions, I listen to my era, the 60s music.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

Funny you should ask. I have a Pandora subscription on my computer so I can ask for any kind of type of music I want. Right now, listing new items, I wanted quiet-type classical music. Well, Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overature" just finished. I had to stop all my production and make all the sound effects myself. If you know that piece, it's cannons and bells and you name it. I loved it. Afterward, I had to turn off the "radio". Nothing can beat that. I am worn out.
