What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

In the car, I listen to Sirius, the Sinatra channel. When I'm at home I listen to Spotify because it's free, and listen to the playlist that I made using that genre of music....Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Judy Garland etc...

Interesting topic! I never really gave it much thought before. No music for me though--I listen to TV shows that are talk-based while I crochet--upbeat conversations--no yelling, arguing, or sudden noises. I avoid shows with plotlines and movies of any kind. I am attracted to the images and stories, and I can't concentrate on what I am crocheting. When I work on the computer, I have to have quiet. I can't write or read with noise in the background. My goodness--I have very specific preferences!!!

It depends on my mood. I like calm music like old country - Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett but then I like some pretty heavy stuff like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and then I can go back to listening to Bill Withers and The Beatles.

Classical! We have a fantastic classical radio station out of Boston, Massachusetts - 99.5 WCRB (a service of WGBH Educational Foundation). You can stream it from their website and the podcasts are wonderful! If you think that classical is boring, please give WCRB a listen. Classical is one of the most inspirational and soothing types of music to create to.

When I'm creating my designs my favorite music to listen to is film soundtracks or classical music to give me a soothing calm, but when I'm on the computer prepping my photos and writing my listings, I tend to listen to more fast upbeat music to help speed things along. :)
