What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

My art tends to be contemplative, so I often bask in minimal, atmospheric, ambient music - Harold Budd, Robert Rich, Brian Eno, and radio stations like Ambient Sleeping Pill :-).

BUT right now we're coming S L O W L Y out of winter here in Australia, so I'm going upbeat with the delightful and soulful instrumental group Penguin Cafe (from England).

I listen to the radio mostly. Bbc radio 2 for the chats & all the big hits that callers choose on a friday - they're the best.
Other times i tune in to Smooth, for lots of fab 80's songs.
I like Birdy at the minute too, & have her on my Spotify along with other easy listening songs.. When you sit & stitch, heavy music doesn't quite fit ; )

I listen to books on audible. maybe 10 a month depending on the lengths. But it keeps me focused as odd as that may seem.

silence is the sound it all came from! So can be very creative! Sometimes the bigger creations tune in on the right frequency like Mozart!

TV or radio is my background noise, that help to my orientation in time. It's so easy to forget what time it is.
I really love all kind of music, each music for some occasion. I do not like any restrictions , especially not in music.

Listening to music while I work, will definitely keep me going...
I prefer to listen to pop artist such as Beyonce Or Oldies from the 60's & 70's (Anything up beat)

Without music, I won't get much done - Ha!!

I don't have a music station that is more current than the 70's and 80's music they play... so I log onto Pandora and listen to everything...

I love all types of music...

but what also works for me - I watch scary movies... that way I get to hear a scary story but only look at what my hands are doing so I don't have to watch the images on tv that stick in my brain long after the show ends...

I find movie soundtracks, especially the powerful instrumentals are my favorite for working. :) I also listen to rock sometimes, but listen to music with words more while I clean, and without when I am working so I can focus.

I love music so I couldn't create without music. When I start making my jewelry, first I light an incense to feel more positive and then I play peaceful music like mantras or chillout. It really helps to have a good vibe. Who do the same things :) ?
