What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

What are some songs or artists you often play in the studio? Share your thoughts and music recommendations in this thread!

The Deep House channel on Pandora, Korean/Chinese Pop, some of todays radio hits, or even 1990's/2000's R&B music which I miss. They influence my color scheme.

I am a big rock music fan... I always enjoy my Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, U2, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan.

I love almost every kind of music, but recently discovered Andrea Bocelli. His voice is fantastic - I don't even care if he's singing in Italian. I don't understand it, but it's beautiful.

Music is one of my great loves so I MUST have some kind of music when I'm working.

I usually listen to BBC Radio 2 because it has music from my era (70s, 80s etc.) lol. Also it means that I don't have to keep changing CDs - and I hear new music and songs I had forgotten about.

If I play CDs, I love all kinds of music, but I often choose Wolfstone because i love their Celtic Rock and I find it motivating and happy music to work to.

When I need a change of position from sitting at my bench, I usually play along to some jazz or rock on my drum kit. It's OK - it's a Roland electronic kit and I use headphones so I don't disturb the neighbours!

Usually, I don't listen any kind of music when I'm working on the computer. It's too distracting.
But when I'm packing items or cooking I like to listen smooth jazz and some really old school music, like 40's :)

Instrumental music or anything with a minimal amount of lyrics to concentrate fully on my process. Sometimes I like to listen sounds of nature. It creates a magical atmosphere, which is reflected in my works.

Rarely do things while listening to a cat's purr XD

We like to listen to Jazz Instrumental music when we work. No lyrics.
Pandora or Jango music station works best for variety.

Generally it's Massive Attack or Alice in Chains, Depending on what mood I'm in. But that's for everything really :)

Hi, I'm Malgo and I'm a doll maker creating as Whisper of the Pipit.

Every time I have an art doll to make of a famous musician or actor I like to listen to something that brought them fame. I love to listen to their interviews or biography as well, that way I get to know them better and can bring even more character to their art doll.

I have just completed Prince art doll and was listening to his Purple Rain song as well as the Raspberry Beret. I was able to create one-of-a-kind art doll which I'm very proud to list in my shop.

Before that, I was making David Bowie art dolls so loved to listen to his Ziggy Stardust songs :) also Jareth art doll from the Labyrinth - Dance Magic Dance. Frank-n-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show was also one of my latest creations so was listening to the Sweet Transvestite in repeat mode for hours :).

I love energetic music as this gives me such an energy boost and I can work all night long if necessary without feeling tired :). Music is very important in my work. When I work on custom orders (selfie art dolls) I often listen to one song (repeat mode for days haha).

I listen to different songs while I make different art dolls. Right now, I'm just about to start on a selfie art doll and looking for a totally new song that I could fall in love with, so would appreciate any recommendations :).

But when i need music with me to create i listen to Nickelback.

I listen to audiobooks and podcast. My new discovery is "This American life" podcast. It is addictive and keeps me working loooooong hours ;-)

I love music that makes me feel like I'm outdoors since I'm indoors drawing all the time.

Desert-y, mountain-y music.

Department of Eagles, Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, Eddie Vedder, Band of Horses, some Radical Face.

Also, FILM SCORES.

Edward Scissorhands, Her, Harry Potter, Into the Wild, and Coraline, being amongst my favorites.

Drawing all the time means I get to watch a ton of movies as well. I usually pick films that I've seen over and over so I can listen without watching and still know what's going on. Movies with a lot of dialogue work best.
