What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

I am an absolute music fiend but I have recently discovered that if I work in silence I get so much more work done!!! It's bitter sweet but what can ya do!!! haha

I use music when I need to be pulled out of a "slump".. I'll listen to something interesting like Wu-tang Clan or Young Thug. I like a lot of different music but hip-hop has been at the forefront lately :). Some other favorites are BLACK FLAG, Tupac, The Bad Brains, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Misfits..... it goes on and on!

This week I have been listening to a ton of Volbeat (especially Radio Girl) and also Chandelier by SIA which I had stuck in my head. It's annoying to listen to music while doing encaustic painting, though, because every time you use the heat blower it becomes very hard to hear. I often have to hit replay a bunch of times to actually hear the song all the way through.

It's not music but it IS sound; I stream some old 70's show on Netflix while I work. Shows like Columbo bring me back in time to when I was a child watching with my Mom without a care in the world...stress free and very relaxing for me.

I like radio stations. While working in the studio I am able to really listen to music and I find new music that I like via radio.

CJLY The coop radio station in Nelson BC Canada

I listen to jazz, instrumental, tribal and steel drum. The rhythm and flow of these styles help engage the right brain. I have a more enjoyable studio time when the music is directing the paint brush!
