What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

I listen to rock when sewing. It keeps me revved up and going. Also, when I'm doing tedious work with the crayon rolls or repetitive sewing for other projects, it really helps when I can just sing along. It makes the tedious work go by faster.

For crocheting, I find a tv series on Netflix and let that run it's course. It's a perfect way for me to try and get through the ever growing queue list.

When I'm working on earrings, I like to turn on the local NPR station. They have a great mix on weekends, including world beats, Jazz Sunday and Blue Collar. Saturdays has a great Celtic mix.

Knitting gets TV, ususally binge watching something from the DVR.

I listen to my Pandora station. I have about 25 stations that I listen to, mostly on a "shuffle" basis. I love the variety of the music I love. I "fav" the songs I like the most. They come up often that way. It makes working very pleasant.

Has been Vashti, Anne Briggs, Elizabeth Cotten all gentle folk a lot since moved into an old house in Tokyo. We never play our guitar or stereo system loud in Japan. My work now is more in soft matte gold and pearls - rather feminine.

Before, where I spent 16 years in London, I absorbed into dark electronica, My piece of work was rather cold in monochrome. Never thought of big pearl or gold colour.

That's a very interesting question! It totally depends on my state of mind, my mood in the moment. Sometimes I need something to calm me or to cheer me up, so I take my phone and look for a certain song I like the most right now. Different things can catch me: the sound of the singer's voice, the melody, the tune, the lyrics etc.
I like soft and tender music, beautiful voices. That inspires me. No specific kind or style. Sometimes it may be some information but without a motion, because doing some things together makes me distracted. Beadworking, you know ))

I usually listen to classic rock on Pandora when I am working in my craft room. Eagles, CCR, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Helps me to relax and focus. :) In late fall I will switch over to my Christmas channel to get my Christmas mojo going!

I'll also listen to Etsy advise podcasts, like "Elise Gets Crafty." These podcasts keep me smiling, motivated, and thinking forward.
