One more piece of advice: for those of you still including the www in your link: you don't have to any more. So, no more www.[shopname].etsy.com, but just [shopname].etsy.com
(Mwuha, some buyer only uses 'shopname' as their username. That is why I added the square brackets. Hopefully they don't use 'password' for their password...)
Okay, those brackets ruined my point, but believe me, when you use your shopname without the 'www.' it goes to your shop! www.BeaG.etsy.com BeaG.etsy.com (See how the one without the www is a live link now?)
www.etsy.com/shop/[shopname] is the official url (the actual web address of your shop page). But Etsy redirects the other links, like [shopname].etsy.com, to our shop page.
In 'the old days' (I joined Etsy almost 9 years ago) we only had a username, no shopname. So I have always used a nice short link, BeaG.etsy.com, on my business cards, etc. When Etsy introduced seperate shopnames and we got the option to have a shopname that was different from our username (and the option to have multiple shops connected to the same username), we asked Etsy to please redirect our former links to our shop page, so those of us who wanted to, could still use the link with their username instead of their shopname. I am glad they honoured our request. I could continue to use my short and easy link. In my business correspondence I always speak of William's Giftshop at BeaG.etsy.com, to avoid confusion for my customers.
I never understood why when you go to your homepage it appears:
www.etsy.com/shop/designsthelimit
Good advice is to buy your domain and have it redirect to your Etsy shop. We have our own website which functions mostly like a blog with links to our Etsy shop, facebook, twitter, pinterest, and other pages.
Design's the Limit, why don't you understand that? It makes perfect sense that that is the official address of your shop page. First it says Etsy, then shop, then the name of your shop. Couldn't be any more clear. Don't think from the point of view of a single shop, but from the point of view of the site owner. This is an address on their website. And then, to accomodate us, they made it possible to have a better link for our individual shops and redirect it to that shop page address.
Funny how everyone feels the need to check that what works for every (!) Etsy shop works for their shop too. LOL
www.organicrime.etsy.com Hope i did it right? Thanks so much for all the helpful Info! I have a domain from Godaddy.com with my Etsy Shop on there with all my product pics..and i have additional info about my Business and a price-list. I want to add more to it eventually. I am replying to Kathleen Fitzpatrick. :)
