To Frame or Not to Frame?

I sell photo prints. They are not framed or matted, they are just prints. In order to give customers a better idea of what it might look like framed, I have a few listings showing the print in a frame.

Do you think this is helpful or just confusing??

Here is an example with:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/119569584/nature-photography-red-winter-berries-in?
https://www.etsy.com/listing/116865817/nature-photography-fine-art-photography

Without:

Would love some feedback.
Thank you!

Re: To Frame or Not to Frame?

Hi Katherine,

You have gorgeous photos! I believe it can't hurt to show what your photos will look like framed. This can give people a good sense of the size of your photos and if you add a prop or two, I think it could add some atmosphere.

Your overall shop page is super cohesive and looks good, so maybe keep the framed photos within the listing itself like you've done with the above examples. But, I'd look around and see what successful photography shops are doing...

Good luck!

Re: To Frame or Not to Frame?

Showing prints in a frame can be helpful to buyers. :) Maybe take a photograph of the framed item on a wall, or on a table, so a potential customer can get a visual. I would also put the disclaimer of "print does not come matted or framed" a little higher up in the listing or at the top, so there's no confusion.

Re: To Frame or Not to Frame?

I show mine in (virtual) frames, and have for a while but I am thinking about taking it out. I think it looks much better than just a photo on the page and giving a visual is always a good idea.

I'm not too much into the staging it on the wall like some photographers do. If you want I can give you the link to do virtual matting and framing like mine (check them out) which can save you some time from having to print, re-frame and shoot.

Re: To Frame or Not to Frame?

Thanks for the ideas! Jennifer, I would love your link. I have been doing digital framing on my own with photoshop, but if there is a faster way, I would love to know about it. I love your photos! I like the way they look in the frames, but it does make it a little harder to see some of the images.

I kind of like the idea of staging, but it would be a lot of work!

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: To Frame or Not to Frame?

Hey Katherine,

The website is: http://bighugelabs.com/mat.php

They have a framing section too but I think their idea of a frame is garbage. I figured since you were doing the basic black "frame" with white Matboard like I have this website will do all the work for you, fast :) If you upload your images to Flickr you can grab them from there as well.
