Tiptoeing into Etsy......

Everyone keeps telling me to open an Etsy store.

I make quilts (by special order only) and American Girl Doll Clothes but I don't want to enter an overly saturated market. How do I find out if it is?

Also, I have a project I have been working on and finally got my "Patent Pending" number secured! Do I open the store with it or should I open it with the above mentioned items for a while first?

Hi, Connie, congratulations on your patent pending number!

You can search Etsy for items you want to sell. If people are encouraging you to open a shop, you probably have items they think would sell on Etsy. If your patent pending design fits your quilts and American Doll clothes, you might try combining them in one shop.

All the best!

Hi, Connie: I agree with Bev, spending some time looking around at shops that sell similar items. It will give you an idea of what sells, and you will learn about pricing too. However, do not hesitate to jump in. Even in a saturated market, you will do very well with a quality product and a nicely designed shop. Go for it!

It never hurts to try, you will never know until you do. Also it's only .20 to list an item for 4 months. That's way cheaper than investing in an e commerce website. You can test the waters for literally pennies.
