Hello,
I'm Alle, I'm interested in using social media for my shop but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I am thinking about starting an instagram profile, but I'm stuck on what to share, I don't what to only share pics of my products. People say its good to show process photos of your work but most of my work is done digitally so not very exciting...

What kinds of things do you like to share on your networks? Any pointers?

Thanks!
Cheers!

Re: Tips for using instagram?

just started out today and here´s one thing i wonder:
is it possible to upload things from your PC rather than only via the smartphone app???

Re: Tips for using instagram?

Barbara, I'm fairly certain that you have to upload photos from your phone app. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I also think it's important to have some other photos besides all products so people can get to know the creator/finder. I'm just getting started on Instagram so this is a good kick in the pants for me!

Re: Tips for using instagram?

I love instagram - I just reached over 6,000 followers! It's really good for showing more creative shots, behind the scenes shots, customer photos etc, I adore it!

Re: Tips for using instagram?

AubergineFox, congratulations! May I ask how long have you been on IG?

I have started my IG recently (@linen.space), and I find it perfect place to attract audience by posting interesting moments of my creative process. Not so many followers yet, but I think it is a question of my efforts and time.

Re: Tips for using instagram?

There is an application called Gramblr, you can download it on your PC and load pictures to Instagram. It is very useful because I don´t have a smartphone.
I am just taking baby steps in instagram.

Re: Tips for using instagram?

Have recently started my Instagram page and intend to add a number of additional photos. Most are of my jewelry products. I notice that is what most others with similar products are doing. My plan is to throw in a beautiful photo of something else every now and then. I use hash tags on each photo. Somewhere I read to only use 4 per photo, but notice some people use lots more than 4 hashtags.

Re: Tips for using instagram?

I love instagram! It's a great way to promote your work and let people get to know a bit more about you. A mix of your products, your process and everyday life is a good place to start. Definitely use hashtags as people have said and if you click on hashtags that you tag your products with then put it into 'list mode' then you can go through and easily like lots of photos related to yours! It's pretty addictive!
It's also a really great way of connecting with people and learning about lots of lovely creative people!

Re: Tips for using instagram?

That gramblr tip is very useful, thanks Natalia!

And the 'list mode' tip I'm going to try as well, thanks Millie!

I've been posting daily-ish for a few weeks now, and it's really increased my followers! I'm still not hashtagging enough though, I use 2-3 hashtags at the most..

Re: Tips for using instagram?

I've been learning a lot from this thread. I've only been on Instagram a few weeks and I'm already getting more hearts than likes on Facebook. It seems like a very worthwhile marketing tool.

Any advice on how often to post? I started out pretty slowly, but I've been doing 1-3 posts a day recently.

Re: Tips for using instagram?

Just one question:

Do you think Instagram helped you get sales or just x views and x favorites?

Re: Tips for using instagram?

I have an instagram account but have yet to get a lot of followers. Thought I'd include some pics of my dogs in addition to my beaded jewelry. I try and include other aspects of my life on my FB one too. If you can, please follow me and I'll do the same!

Re: Tips for using instagram?

I like using instagram! And I noticed much more views from the etsyapp since I started using it...maybe it's someone that check my shop from tablets or phones! And, it's funny too! :-) there are lots of great artists on instagram!
I think that you should post not only photos about your work and your shop, but also something about your life, more personal images.
I try to support etsy sellers when I find them! Follow me if you like! :-) I'll follow back.
