Thoughts on direct check out vs PayPa?

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on Direct Check Out vs. Paypal. Currently I'm only offering direct check out , since I'm a brand new shop. However I'm wondering if it's worth also offering PayPal? Or should I only offer Paypal?

Part of my hesitation is that a while ago I had a negative experience as a seller (selling something completely unrelated to Etsy) and I just felt like they took so much of a percentage that it wasn't worth it.

I'm interested to hear insights!

Thanks,
Felie

Re: Thoughts on direct check out vs PayPa?

Paypal is the only option for me as I am not in US and cant sign up for Direct checkout.
Paypal has its pros and cons, but my advice would be to offer both - why discourage those buyers who only want to use paypal. As for their costs, you would need to factor that in to your product prices.
Good luck!

Re: Thoughts on direct check out vs PayPa?

I offer both. I've had a Paypal account for over 10 years (I used to sell on ebay on a regular basis) and have never had an issue with sending or receiving payments. I've had direct checkout with this shop since I re-opened in October and have not had any issues. As far as the fees are concerned, I find them to be comparable. Until recently, Paypal seemed to be the most popular payment method of my buyers. However, 7 of the last 8 orders in my shop have been paid for with direct checkout. It doesn't matter to me how they pay, as long as they pay!

I think it's benefited my shop to have both. Some buyers don't want to deal with Paypal. Some, like me, prefer not to key in credit card information and use Paypal for that reason.

If you build the fees into your prices there shouldn't be a problem. I notice you and I sell similar items. My item and shipping prices are set to cover all Etsy and Paypal/Direct Checkout fees.

I offer both, and have had no problems with either. As Judy said, fees are just about the same. Through the holidays, sales were split about 50/50 between the two.

I highly recommend both checkout options. You want to make checking out simple and hassle free as possible for your customers. Customers have their preferences...and since its almost transparent to you, use both checkout options.

Do both & build in the fees. At the end of the day you'll get more customers.

I do prefer direct checkout, because I like using their shipping label option better than paypal's. Just a little easier on the eyes. I also like that it deposits straight into my bank account. When funds go into my paypal account & pile up, I usually end up spending it online. But that's just me. ;P

I offered dc over the holidays.
I didn't care for sending my products before receiving the money.
No other company is expected to send product before being paid.

I print labels through Etsy shipping for all my orders regardless of how the buyer paid. It's so much easier to have all the info right in front of me and just click the buttons to create a label, download and print. Then I just pay the shipping fees when I pay my Etsy bill. Easy peasy. :)

Some companies do experience delays in getting the funds from credit card payments. The payment has to go through many channels before it's processed and deposited into the merchant's account. If there's enough cash flow a delay in receiving funds isn't a problem.

Re: Thoughts on direct check out vs PayPa?

I use both paypal and direct check out and am glad that I do. Fees are comparable and I like giving buyers the option. And I do build in the fees when pricing my items.
