Our Etsy shop has been open just over a year...oh how time flies! My mom and I were inspired to open our shop after I had my daughter Peyton. We were constantly making new things for her and wanted to share these special handmade things with the world. So we got online, opened our shop, and started listing our items. We thought at first that people would just...come. I mean we've all seen the movie right?

"If you build it, they will come"

Apparently, not so much the case for your Etsy shop. Your customers don't just magically appear coming out of the corn fields.

Over the past year we have made made mistakes, we have had successes, but most importantly we have learned A LOT!! So I wanted to share with you some of the things that we have learned throughout our journey. Maybe you will find something to try and help you be more successful!

Thanks so much for the great blog. I think I will try to get a piece of posterboard. I recently was told that I needed to switch to a white background so it will be slow going but all my new stuff is getting done that way but my fabric background can look wavy which I don't like.

I too notice that when I post a lot and am on the discussion threads more my traffic does pick up. I have had a good amount of sales for only a short time but not enough to really make this into a full time business yet. I need to work on my tags too. It is a constant work in progress for sure.

Thank you for sharing the great tips! I was exactly one of those people who opened the stop, listed a few items and left it there for a long time thinking people would come and magic would happen because I did sell one item the first day I opened my shop.... That was a miracle. After that, there was hardly any traffic to my shop....
